individuals forgive, and it is a liberating experience with people en masse as it were, the perpetrators must share a common understanding of past events without this essential requirement, but with tribalism continuing it is a somewhat unrealistic demand a practical problem is that those most abused, ie the dead, cannot easily forgive from the grave christianity always emphasised forgiveness above everything since its earliest days so would you say that the christian south of cyprus should be the first to forgive the moslem north, and then bin the atrocity stories? because in order for one people to forgive another, the evildoers whoever we may think they really are (not always easy to decide either!) must surely admit what they have done before they can be forgiven what signs do you see emerging paul, of the tc's forgiving the greek cypriots for killings by eoka "b" squads and the gc's equally forgiving turkey for the loss of their beautiful north?

paul, doesn't it all depend what you mean by move on? for example you could move on to another majority rule cyprus state like long ago ...or you could move on to a free and recognised trnc otherwise you can move on with a lot more of the same, the most likely outcome or perhaps you mean move on by all cypriot locals laying past evils finally to rest: do you think that will happen in any forseeable circumstance? I think we should be told!

re msg 10 Assuming the q. was to me! In Cyprus(north) its very seldom for 2 different families to get same surname. There are 2 families in Northern Cyprus that carries "Akinci" as surname. Neither has the person mentioned. unless of course, names been changed for their own reason/reasons!!!!!!!

I'd rather be guided by "yorgozlu" in this. Even if this story was true, individuals act differently in personal matters to populations going through trauma. Cyprus can only "forgive and move on" when the Greek Cypriots stop denying their part in the troubles. Cue.....6m's

paul I think you are a bit confused your member picture has you guys sitting under a staue of ataturk the great patriotic turkish hero: suppose he'd forgiven the greek army in 1920, and let them keep smryna how differently history might have turned out? by rights you should have been photographed next to jesus, ghandi or mary poppins
