We arrived at Ercan airport this morning 6.00 am for an 8.00am flight back to London to be told Customs had gone on strike and would not be starting work until 10.00am, therefore check in would not be starting until at least 10.00am. What message does this send to tourists? The bloody lunatics running the Asylum!!! Grrrrr!

Looks like they're learning how to cause maximum disruption for minimum loss of wages. First it was the pilots, now it's customs and then next it will be the baggage handlers on strike. I guess a lot of the staff realise that losing wages now will make little difference because if they give in to the government they'll lose overtime payments anyway. The government has to take a stand against the "go slow gets lots of overtime" attitude but in doing so it looks like there's a "winter of discontent" on the way. I'm not sure who the "lunatics" are in this situation? Malcolm Channing Editor of North Cyprus Free Press http://www.northcyprusfreepress.com

i think its absoluteley ridiculous and crazy my father was flying last night from stansted to north cyprus and was meant to arrive at 6 am this morning not to mention the plane taking off an hour and alf late from stansted he is now arriving at 12 pm noon for a man of hos age (80) and for anyone else i guess its an absoulute disgrace and cta ahould be ashamed of themselfs it not only gives cyprus a bad name but it also ensures that the tourists will not come back to north cyprus why can people not see this

The whole state sector in the TRNC needs a good Thatcher style kick-up-the-a** Let's hope the government sticks to it's guns, though I'm sure there will be pain in the short term. TRNC wages & pensions are double that of mainland Turkey, though I'm sure productivity is lower here. I would guess that aligning wages between the TRNC & TR is part of a bigger plan r.e the virtual annexisation of Northern Cyprus pending the likely failure of re-unification talks, and the TRs realisation that their future does not lie in the EU, but with their neighbours to the north and east Mark

Well reading these threads we will carry on coming through Larnaca, we were starting to look at flights to Ercan, but no way now. Hope you all get sorted as nothing worse than being held up by what is 'blackmail' but not of your making. MarkVPiazza is right, what the country needs is Mrs Thatchers attatude to these strikes. And we need her insight back into GB also. All the best lol

For anyone on YK661/YK662 Manchester tomorrow, Manchester airport is showing the incoming flight now due at 16:15 instead of 11:00, so obviously a delay already. As they never manage to turn around at Manchester on time anyway, it's anyone's guess what time the return flight will get back to Ercan. Would it be too much for CTA to put a news page on their website to inform their customers of the current problems and delays? They would obviously be advertising bad news, but at least passengers could be psychologially prepared before arriving to find they have over a five hour delay.

According to live flight information page on http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk the incoming flight from Ercan YK661 is now due to arrive in Manchester at 16:15 which is a 5.15 hour delay. At present the information for the outgoing flight to Ercan YK662 is wait in lounge. In other words it will be at least 5.15 hour delay.
