It's got to be the TERVETUOLA HOTEL in Alsancak. On booking a party of 18 diners we entered the garden via the hotel steps, and although Cyprus had not seen rain for some months, one of our party slipped on a wet step. The management i.e. ARIF and his daughter just looked and turned away. I asked ARIF the owner for use of a first aid kit and just received a blank look. We finally received a small kit from a car which was almost depleted of items. I asked Arif why the concrete steps leading to the restaurant had puddles of water on them, and was told he did not know, and that NOBODY HAD SLIPPED ON THE STEPS BEFORE!!! The staff offered NO HELP WHATSOEVER and the owner never left his seedy little outdoor bar. This is most unusual for a Cypriot establishment, who are normally very caring. The injury took over 2 months to heal and needed attention from Cyprus Life Hospital. So if you are looking for a unique experience, maybe the Hotel Tervetuola is for you!! PS heard food is awful

That used to be one of my favourite places and we always went there in a crowd, but the last 3 times with friends the food has been awful, I asked for liver and said I didnt want rice, so thinking they would give me potatoes/chips etc nothing I had a plate of liver, my friend had just pork as she didnt want rice, when I moaned about it all, she said was YOU DIDNT WANT RICE

shant go there again in a hurry.

Service was so rushed it was eat and go, the minute you sit down they rush to take your order, and then stand there until you give it to them, you book for the evening not for an hour.

I am so sorry to hear of the injury.I find this very unusual as Arif is usually extremely attentive, friendly and caring and I have always found the food excellent and good value for money.

We always used to go to Tervetuloa and often recommended it to others without hesitation but sadly it has gone downbank. On our last visit we were surprised to find that whatever main course you order it is served with rice and chips, there was no other choice, not a fresh vegetable in sight. Rice etc with something like chicken shish is fine but not with lamb chops, liver or pork type dishes.

We were also quite surprised with the price of drinks, we were charged 7TL for a standard glass of wine, far more than anywhere else, we certainly won't be rushing back. Having said all of that we have always found Arif and his daughter to be charming and very welcoming.

We finally visited this place for the first time in June of this year. This followed numerous recommendations. To say we were very disappointed would be an understatement, especially after all the good things we had heard. It was virtually empty.

The food was, to be generous, less than average. The service was adequate at best. I had probably the worst kleftico I had every had and the much exalted 'free' mezes were very disappointing. Get better food at the 2 kebab places up in Lapta - for a fraction of the price (don't mean Cenap, just the 2 small, cafe type places).

Definitely won't go again.

Jeannie, thanks for your comments. Further to Msg. 1 - Reluctantly after seeing the total lack of interest from the owner Arif and his daughter,we decided to leave. At short notice we had to find a restaurant who would cater for all 18 of us.

Having been to AL SHAHEEN at Karakum a few times, we headed off in convoy, where we received a much warmer welcome, even to the point of rushing out to us with an ice bucket and clean towels to help with the swelling of my earlier leg injury at the Hotel Tervetuloa. We all ate from the A la Carte menu and thoroughly enjoyed the remainder of our evening. TOP MARKS TO IMTIAZ AND HIS STAFF from everyone in our party.

OBVIOUSLY, PAKISTANI HOSPITALITY FAR OUTWEIGHS THE CYPRIOT STYLE OF HOSPITALITY THAT WE RECEIVED FROM THE HOTEL TERVETULOA.

This sounds like a hatchet job to me, We have been here 5 years and sent many many people to Tervetolea as well as being there with friends from the UK on numerous accounts.

Dynamicduo the injury took 2 months to heal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have always had good food and received excellent service at Tervetuloa, but have never had the misfortune to slip on a wet step.

nurseawful msg. 14 - Yes, the injury did take 2 months to mend, and I have the receipts and X-Rays to prove it! Secondly, if you took the time to read correctly, we certainly did not eat there, but found a Restaurant that did wish to serve 18 covers on a Tuesday night.

Nurseawfull..... on reading mess 1 I see your point. Doesn't quite ring true does it?

Perhaps 'dynamicduo' ar a couple setting up a restaurant not far away from Tervetuloa? - just a thought. Sure I'm wrong though.

You booked a party of 18 and then in message 13 said that you found elsewhere to accomodate you. correct

Then it was one of your pary who had been injured then again in Message 13 it was you.

if the injury was so severe tell me how at the next restuarant it felt better with ice and clean towels. Why not go straight to Girne Hopital?????????????????

Call me common if it pleases you but you are still talking S...te.

Yes injuries take longer to heal in the heat but believe me if you had fractured a limb (which you did not say) you would have not been able to drive to the next venue and the pain would have been unbearable!!!! (unless of course you were intoxicated at the time and god forbid were drinking and driving)

Last but no means least why wait 2 months to put this on the forum???

Once again nurseawful you jump in and make you suppositions sound like facts. If he injured himself, wasn't he "one of our party?" He heard the food was awful because they left without eating. If you know so much about injuries you should know that most slip, strain injuries don't feel bad until later, ask any sports player.

Common is as common does so why put S...te when when you intoduced the word to the thread in full.

How's your noisy neighbours doing? Wonder who annoys who the most.

Whatever the ins and outs of Dynamicduo are the rest of the people who expressed their opinion were not lying or trouble making, why would they ,they were just saying how they felt about this hotel. As I said we have been visiting this place for over ten years and have always enjoyed it but sadly it isn,t the place it used to be, yes they have lost customers so perhaps they will go back to their former quality and regain those customers.

Don't know why you wish to set yourselves up not only as judge and jury but executioner too!!

perhaps it's an insecurity problem!

Yep, well said minertor, sprains and pulled muscles sometimes dont show up straight away. I have one now and it took several days to really get a grip. Also if some one has diabetes it does take longer to heal, but I am sure nurseawful knows all of that any way.

Oh dear, how unfortunate for the party of 18. Apart from the slip on the wet (which had probably been sprhayed down for cleaning) I know it is always difficult to cater for a party of 18, but then you didn't eat there anyway, and so sorry it sounded a traumatic experience.

But, and I have to put a 'but' - everytime I have been there the family have been charming, helpful and the food excellent. I have only two compaints - they give you far too much food , as the meze in itself is more than enough, and secondly, when I went there for Sunday lunch with a friend, they advised that they don't do it any more.

Sadly in life, it is like hospitals, doctors and any other 'service'; provider - not everyone is happy all the time.

Again, sorry it happened to you, but in five years I have never had anything to complain about one of the nicest families I know who DO try so hard to make people feel at home and provide good servic\e.

Just got back yesterday had a great time. We went to the Cyprus Queen on numerous occasions and found the best of TRNC hospitality. Great staff, good food definately recommend the Spaghetti bol - was not sure about ordering it in the heat but when it came it was so good I ate the lot. They have very friendly staff and managment and your every need is catered for. I got my fan out to cool my face and immediatly they brought a big fan out and switched it on. I asked the to repeat some music Il Divo - next day when I went it Il Divo was put on. (not everyone's taste I know, but they have great 'range' of music) They have live shows and if you like kittens they have a wonderul family of kittens to entertain you (and scrounge your food - nicely of course or they get wrong off the staff). You can eat/drink indoors/outdoors in different locations. If my villa is every finished and I get to live in Incesu - this will be my local

thanks Cyprus Queen, had a great time, look after kitts

I had been to this restaurant on 2 previous occasions & really enjoyed it. however, when I took my family who were visiting from UK on the 3rd occasion, 2 of the main courses were unedible. When I called over the daughter, she virtually argued at the table with me. We paid the bill & left. Last month, my partner persuaded me to try it again, so I did. The food was just ok (knew which mains not 2 order) but I still felt like we were being rushed. When will restaurantuers here realise that we have so many to choose from, unless the food & service is a little above average, we will vote with our feet. not asking for Michelin starred, just a nice warm welcome & good, tasty food!

Have just come from Tervetuloa this evening. My wife and I enjoyed our meal. Service was excellent.

We have been going to Tervetuloa off and on, over a period of 4 years, as a couple, with friends and with family and have always found the meals of good quality and the service from the family run business friendly.

On one visit our grandson fell off his chair, it may have been caught in a slight crack in the concrete, but then there are always cracks in concrete in this country; the youngster had a nasty gash, blood everywhere and bumps and bruises. The owner's daughter rushed to our help, gave first aid and all was mended. Her helpfulness and speed of action was really appreciated. She didn't have to help to the extent she did. It was an unfortunate event, but accidents do happen.

We will continue going to Tervetuloa, particularly as we find their hopsitality very honest and friendly.......... and the food's good too!
