I live in the Turkish quarter in Girne and wouldn't live anywhere else. Twenty minute walk to the harbour and near to local restaurants so you don't always have to use the car.

Nicosia being on the central plain is much hotter in summer and quite a bit colder in winter. I think the cost of living is cheaper in Nicosia. I suppose a lot would depend whether you want to be by the sea or not.

My friends have got a flat in each - best of both! They were going to sell one but with all the smart new property didn't think they'd get much for them. True, Nicosia is cheaper and less "touristy" What about Famagusta? Depends what you want. Girne is cooler in summer definitely, between the sea and mountains. Lovely.

In my opinion Girne would be best place. Like others have said, its cooler, even though it still reaches 40+ in summer, you still have breeze from being so coastal. But when i have driven into Lefkosa you can feel the inland heat hit you straight away, as there is no breeze. It all depends on what suits you. In girne you also have the harbour and alot more english-friendly (if you like) things to do. The inland tends to inhabit more locals, where as out here you will be amogst alot of brits too.

lefkosa is the better place to live. not in central lefkosa but in one of the outlying villages. we live in the mountian with views over lefkosa, but we are still in the lefkosa district. it is much cooler than girne or coastal areas in summer. no tourists, only local people, but is that what you want.? it depends on what you are looking for!
