Great feature in the Weekend Cyprus Today about the charity Help for Heroes and how one mum is coping with looking after her son injured in Iraq. Now there is a cause worth supporting. . .

It shouldn't take a charity to help these Hero's the Government should be paying out instead of paying benefits to all the people who haven't paid into the system.

Woodspeckie - hear! hear! Remember the slogan following the end of the Second World War? "Homes for Heroes" which, in reality, became "Heroes for Homes" Deja-vu? J

Sorry - think that should have been: "Homes fit for Heroes" which actually became "Heroes fit for Homes" J

The Labour government are full of bullshit and tell endless lies. I say send them all to Afghanistan and let them walk in front of the troops looking for IED's that might just make them support our Armed Forces a little.

Just reading up on my World War One history. The blokes that survived the hells of Mons, the Retreat from Mons, Ypres, Somme, Third Ypres and the rest were told their jobs would be kept open and they would be returning to a Britain fit for heroes. Many had to resort to begging. No jobs, and theirs filled in many cases by men who - for one reason or another - had kept well away from any trouble. And here we are, nearly a hundred years later, in the same bloody mess.

Our Gordon has been on a surprise visit to meet the troops, how do they find any soldiers who want to shake his hand they must have orders to do so. What is going on at home they want to hide behind this visit?

Agreed, government has let our Boys down, no surprise there! However, this story is about those who have to pick up the pieces at home of shattered lives. They deserve our support. To call the soldiers 'brave' is just a cliché... and to call their parents 'brave' is just an insult. They just get on with it. Riveting reading.
