Ant powder around the doors and just going mad with ant sprays that you can get in the supermarkets.

Another solution is to feed your dogs outside, or not allow food to sit around the house uncovered. If our dogs left any food it was covered with cling film and placed in a shady place outside. The ants then had no reason to enter our home.

Daisy, buy a can "BENGAL Tuttinsetti" (under pressure) - killing ants and other insects instantly. Lemar (and possibly other big supermarkets. Also buy some powder and block 'the ants roads' (don't know how to describe it any better in the English language, sorry).

My dogs get fed once a day (chicken necks mostly) but they always have a bowl of biscuits down for nibbles, this is what they are now sharing with the ant population....i HATE ants!! I would rather have a tarantula inmy house than ants!!!

Daisy, won't help you much but Cypriot Turks believe that ants in and around your house bring luck to your house...

I read the other day that if you draw a line with white chalk the ants will not cross it. This is not a joke, try it

I heard it's the chalk that bothers them...and that this is the main component in ant powder

Try putting little piles of sugar, outside, but near the various ant nest, or trail, locations - it's an old remedy for discouraging ants to come inside a dwelling to search for tucker!

A friend recommended putting a small drop of domestos on the ant road and also in any small holes that they use. This has worked for us!!!

The best solution in getting rid of ants yourself is to buy any insect powder you can find it doesnt have to be for ants it could be for any insect as they are all the same. Then get some icing sugar and mix it 2 parts of ant powder to one part of sugar and spirnkle it around the outside of the house where you see the ants. Try and leave little piles. Then watch then go mad to take the sugar back to the nest thus killing the queen.

Ants are smart - thank goodness they don't grow to the size of a dog, or larger....

I have just returned and the villa I was staying in was unoccupied and the ants had moved in.

We have had this problem abroad before. You can get plug-in insect killers the dark blue ones with the tabs that slot in are good - all you find is a black blob where the ants were, we put them in each room. Also there is a spray which I got 2 weeks ago in Atakara Alsancak. It is a white can with a large black insect on it and it kills for 3 months. I sprayed the kitchen area worksurfaces the floors around the work surfaces etc on arrival and the next morning there were no ants and there were dead bugs around the floor. The cupboards get ants in too, so if you open something and then put the container in the fridge the ants are on the container so you get them in your fridge. I also found some wipes - degreasers/antibiotic ones and I wiped the surfaces with them after I had finished to make sure there were no traces of food left for the ants - it worked we had no problems.

the villa i rented in catalkoy had ants everywhere, the lady who looks after the place bought a few of these little plastic traps and left them in every room,i think the ants thought they were in a playground climbing on the swings etc! basically they didnt work, wasnt too happy spraying food surfaces with ant killer either, probably wont do us much good either,i just kept wiping them down each day,i felt like a mass murderer! anyway Daisy if all else fails you could put a photo of your armpit by your dogs bowl, that should keep the little buggers away. lol x

A couple of years ago we had an ant invasion and put down ant powder. The crafty little buggers took to the coving and we had lines of them all around the kitchen ceiling. We'd just bought over a new powerful Hoover and used it to suck them all up, they never came back!

they don't like Lynx spray, boiling water, paint thinner and they melt really easy under petrol, but watch the last two if you smoke.

My wife says don't hurt tyhem, talk to them and tell them to leave but hey, she's still here so that doesn't work

Re msg 24 Katy, the white can with the insect on the front is called 'Sertex' available in Lemar etc. I've also used this round doors, walls, sliding window runners etc, works a treat. Went into the kitchen the other night to find a cockroach having a dance on the washing machine. Sprayed around the back of the sink and found it the following morning by the front door on its back, still had a slight twitch to it though (thankfully the Sertex had got rid of its Tourrette's...)

Daisy, my Cypriot friends recently told me of a product in Lemar, its called SPIRO and I bought it on Friday. Its about TL5 and you put the powder around the window sills and around the door and since putting it down... not one ant in the kitchen! Amazing buy true.

Just remember sprays are not as effective at killing ants as powders with icing sugar or the little plastic containers that allow ants to feed from. The way these work is by allowing the ants to take the bait back to the nest thus killing the queen and then the nest. If you only kill the workers it wont affect teh nest.
