I think Sheila is due back from NC. It's about time we had some real information about what's going on at SWB, rather than [as riveting as it is], Andy's 17metre, 3 grand rod.

In particular:

1) is the bar open? [or is it a dayroom?]

2) has the road been resurfaced?

3) has Sheila got green hair?

4) have the Martians landed, and if so, have they now got green hair to go with their little green bodies?

5) do the Martians know that Billy Lee Riley, who recorded "Flying Saucers Rock'n'Roll" in [I think] 1957, died a couple of weeks ago?

Err............just asking

Andy- I wouldn't bother with Marieta as she will only pass messages. You should have had the final bill from Yoav, so simply send the balance via the account instructions included therein.

Just to bring this back above SWB9 as I wasnt concentrating

Loads of new signage went up while we were there

Met loads of lovely people and missed a few to, Steveic was gone before we realised, Gaynor I kept missing except to talk over the balcony, and loads of others who because of illness i know where onsite but I coulnt venture out etc.

Over the next couple of weeks there are a few going out especially over the villa side so that will be fun.

Had a nice afternoon with Rocky, Sheila & Phil.

For those who want to go on a crash diet, please consult Sheila who lost a stone in weight during their second week at SWB [although I wouldn't recommend the "treatment" !!]

Rocky bought my beloved XKR today, I hope he has many safe [and fast] years with it. For those who want to know Rocky's TRUE age, this information can be purchased for a small fee.

Phil had his telescope out on their roof terrace, ostensibly to view the stars, but I reckon he was looking out for little green men.........................

Arthur my age varies depending on the circumstances, buses and trains are many entrance and pub snacks are cheaper if you say you you are over more mature. I am normally about 25 when I go into night clubs like Andy F we sometimes make mistakes with our year of birth. I would look younger if I had some hair to dye but I would be blonde and not green.

At least Phil's telescope works, which is more than seems to be the case with Andy's fishing rod. I reckon if Andy runs a strip of metal down his rod [the fishing variety], not only will he get digital TV broadcasts, he might still be able to pick up Neville Chamberlain's broadcast on 3rd September 1939.

The big question as far as I'm concerned is why no one appears to have heard of "Flying Saucers Rock'n'Roll", by the late Billy Lee Riley. It had the bonus of The Killer [Jerry Lee Lewis] playing piano on the recording. Billy Lee Riley's backing group were called, not surprisingly, The Little Green Men.

Rocky, stick to The Who and The Small Faces.

Billy Lee Riley was a contemporary of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich etc, all who recorded at Sun Records.

Carl Perkins wrote and performed "Blue Suede Shoes"- it was about to be a national hit in the US when Carl and his band were in a car crash [which I think led to the death of either his brother or cousin who were in the band]. By the time he was better, Elvis had done a cover version and the rest is history. He did go into country music, but he still did some good rock'n'roll tracks.

As for Billy Lee Riley, apart from the above, listen to "Red Hot", "Rock with me Baby" [two songs with the same title]. He was also a very versatile musician, playing guitar, drums, harmonica etc- listen to "Itchy" by Sonny Burgess which has BLR playing the harmonica up a storm.

Anyway, need to go and put some more Brylcreem [or failing that, chip fat] on my hair.

We've been back just over a week now and agree the site is looking great.

The landscaping is coming on very nicely.

We also met some very nice people and jolly good company.

My wife is making our side and front garden look really attractive so see if anybody can better ours ?

The bar itself was being built whilst we were there so should be ready soon if it's not already finished.

We were told the internal roads were soon to be tarmaced but unless things have changed the external (old) road was not going to be retarmaced.

We had some work done by an external worker whilst we were there and the work was of a very shoddy, messy and unacceptable standard.

RMS came to our rescue and put everything right for us, so I can only sing their praises and thank them for their extra efforts, it was very much appreciated.

Dean in particular did an excellent job.

The downside is that there are still problems with the water (leaks) but they are working very hard to cure these problems.

John, who was the "external worker" whose work was shoddy? I think it would be helpful for others to know. If you think it's too sensitive, please e-mail privately.

On an entirely different matter, was Andy's "rod" sticking out of block 133 ??

Hi All it appears that the postings are getting less apart from a few bits of fun and most of us are through the completion stage. Yes I know some are workng with SWB and RMS on snagging issues. Is it now time to use a different medium rather than public postings to share our views? It may be easier for RMS and SWB to communicate with a representative or two rather than many individuals. Perhaps if we all (those who want to) join a group email which is private to owners or should we get together in central england (where is that and what about the real northeners??) for a meeting or have a north and south meeting. Ok we should all have a view on the way forward even if this is a tempory arrangement until the RA is properly set up. Even then we will need to communicate but preferably not in the public domain.

We would be happy to attend a meeting in the UK (London or Birmingham I guess is easiest for all) and be part of an objective email group (of SWBay owners only) to work with RMS. I understand the Norwegien buyers already have a group spokesperson who deal with Mike.

Mike is to send out a letter/email to all buyers asking if they are happy to be contacted by others who are interested in setting up a steering group.

Andy, Mike said that the bar/restaurant will be opening soon maybe October and definately for Christmas period.

cant remember what dementia is?? anyway if peole are interested in a meeting please lets put some suggestions forward for a town city location first then we can invetsigate venues.and dates..some of the Premier Travel Inns have meeting rooms for about £100 but one that size we could squeeze 20 in (if we could squeeze 50 in it would be £2 each unless Mike or SWb will pick up the tab!!!!!!)so hopefully we need something bigger..

I don't want to pour cold water on the idea, but I think we all need to be quite specific about what we want to achieve from this, because unless we clearly define the objectives, we could all go off in different directions and anarchy would rule. I believe the questionnaire that RMS sent out should [hopefully] clearly define what the majority of owners want from the site, and perhaps if we had some feedback from RMS the owners as a whole could decide what they want [and the cost they are prepared to accept for the facilities outlined]. Really we all need some sort of exchange of contact information so that those who could attend a meeting could if necessary represent the views of those who wouldn't be able to be present.

If every owner gave permission for RMS to e-mail their contact information to other SWB owners, we may be able to make contact and exchange views/information. I believe that the Norwegian owners already have contacted one another, exchange information and have a re

Sorry I ran out of space, representative.

We can't expect endless facilities unless we're all prepared to pay for them; therefore we need to ascertain the facilities that the majority wish to see within a budget that the majority are prepared to accept.

In previous threads I have been accused by certain residents of wanting to start my own owners association [which is slightly bizarre since the accusers then have e-mailed "concerns" copying in all and sundry]. Unlike some, I have no wish to be "the Mayor of Sweetwater Bay". What I do want to see is a first class site which is run for the benefit of all as cost efficiently as possible. The views of the majority should prevail; we all pay the same service charges whether we have a flat, villa or bungalow, and irrespective of whether we are resident or non resident.

IF we can find a way of exchanging views and information, we do need a committee to express the views of the majority to RMS or whoever the management company are. TBC

Any committee needs to be representative. I have to say that I am strongly against such a committee being disproportionately represented by permanent residents, for reasons that should be obvious from the previous SWB threads.

Although I don't want to do this on a professional basis, I am prepared to do an informal independent examination of the management accounts. I do not think this should be solely me, but with the cooperation of someone with similar experience such as Richard Joyce [known here as "Rocky"].

We therefore separately need representatives who will convey the views of the majority of owners to the management company. However, a starter for this has to be an exchange of information/views between owners, and then hopefully we can appoint representatives.

Oh dear, Andy & Rocky.

Andy your reference the the "Gayhound Hotel"- are you trying to tell us something? Do you angling folk find "other pursuits" to while away the hours at the riverbank? Does "getting a bite from a tiddler" have a whole new meaning?

Rocky, you're a nice guy, I like your company, happy to have dinner with you, but you're right, we'll have separate rooms [and listen to the commotion in Andy's].

arfur im on record as saying you and rocky should be ( due to your profession and rockys previous expeirence) at forefront of any owners comitee or what ever you want to call it. i cant do it and i aint claiming i can, i know richard is keen , well i think he is and your good self.

i told you all on my return that people working for swb and rms want us to do this and quick so lets get it sorted.

andy f thank you for the compliment but but two consenting 70 year olds may npt be true represenatives. Do we need differing colours, creeds and breeds?? e.g. is N4Me a sunburnt scot? is he a consenting adult and do we need a woman? probably yes on the commitee so she can make tea and sandwiches.

Andy- what I'm saying is that I think Richard & I could carry out the independent examination [i.e. audit] role. What we need is a committee which is broadly based in it's representation. The committee members need to be spread amongst owners of differing units [i.e. villas, apartments and bungalows], different occupation characteristics [i.e. holiday homes let out, purely holiday homes for the owners and full time residents], so that any committee truly represents a balanced view of owners as a whole. For practical reasons they really need to have e-mail so that they can communicate easily.

The committee should be widely spread in ages, location etc, although Sam may object to Rocky's suggestion of making the tea & sandwiches!! Andy can be the "pink persuasion" representative, Rocky the Alzheimers rep [if he can remember to attend], and N4me the pictish rep.

BTW why was Rocky up at 3.21am BST ?? Not the old bladder complaint again??

arthur I agree its not worth setting a meeting unless we have clear objectives, an understanding of the individual owners views and owners wishlists. Without this we cant set an agenda or appoint spokees and a meeting is pointless (even with N4me and Andy F would like to get together) at the Gayhound

hi yan , the VAT/KDV is 5% of your purchase price and this will be added when you get your final invoice allong with six months maintenance fee and a infrastructre fee.

you need to have your property snagged we did ours ourselfs when we took hand over. hold back some money till any defaults are sorted.

Hi Guys,

Had a great time in france and back fit and well. Welcome Van its a little quiet on here at the moment but do ask away and we will all help where we can if you would rather not ask publicly then I am on mint1955@blueyonder.co.uk and we live at C41.

Rocky I think its more a case of not so many owners contibute on here and Phil and I are waiting for Mike to send a missive to all the owners requesting who wants to be involved in a steering committee etc then when he has a list of people who are ok with their emails being used for group emails etc about same then we can get some info out etc. Jackie and Arthur and a few others are out there at the moment and I think they are going to follow up what Phil and I started talking to him about when we were there.

And remember there are all the people that actually just want Mike to get on with the great job he has started this past year when he finally, officially takes over from Sweetwaterbay (date still to be confirmed I think) and are happy to give him a chance to prove himself.

As more and more are taking over their properties and spending time on site they are seeing for themselves that the bad press given out by 'the few' about RMS is mostly hot air and diversionery tactics when you actually get the facts. Just look at the fantastic pools we have onsite and the ongoing work on the bar etc.

However much we hate the "its north cyprus and it all takes time" attitude there is not a lot we can do about it and quite frankly thats part of the charm do we really want a little england full of committees and sub committees at SWB, owners in-fighting, so many rules and regulations that we may as well just stay away or when we are there feel like we are being watched by 'big brother' ?

Back at last. For those who want to know, my middle name is Ronald [after my Dad]. Who will pay a fee for Rocky's date of birth???

When we got to the site, I have to say that none of our snagging items had been done. This is probably not surprising given the number of completions in the summer [all with snagging I guess], and also I think SWB are not getting much cooperation from Emek. Anecdotally I have heard that Emek go in to do snagging, say it's done, and it later transpires that it hasn't- this was exactly the case with our electical problems on some lights. Ferit came with a local electrician and the problem was solved in 20 minutes. Emek were going to chisel out walls etc etc.

I really hope that the snagging can now really move forward, if SWB had half a dozen Ferits the problems would be solved in no time.

I am also aware that computer links have been "fragile", and often the office has no internet, which may be why some e-mails have not been answered.

The bar is progressing [slowly], but Mike assures us it will be open in four weeks. It's a great shame that SWB didn't give the go ahead three months ago, which would have enabled the bar to cater for the high season. I think Mike has some good ideas for the bar, and I think it's important that the site has a "focus".

One issue I would like to raise is cats on the site. I am a self confessed animal lover [no crude comments please Rocky or Andy], but there are an increasing number of cats & kittens. Some may consider poisoning them as an answer, but this would be dangerous on a site where children are around, and it won't solve the problem as other cats will simply move into the territory. What is needed is a neutering program to stabilise an indigenous cat population which would hopefully prevent other cats coming to the site. If they were tagged as having been neutered, we would know they were "SWB" cats. They should provide a service in keeping down vermin. TBC

[cont] Ideally, a specific place should be designated where the cats can be fed, which would prevent them pestering owners. How do we fund this? It could be added as a minor addition to the management charges. However, I think there is another solution. The unit between the bar/bistro and the toilet block has, I feel, little practical use. If SWB would agree, this could be used as a book and dvd library, with owners contributing books and dvds they have read/seen. I would suggest a voluntary donation of 1ytl per borrowing put into an honesty box would go a long way to funding the operation.

Got back earlier in the week after spending our first proper holiday on site. Really pleased with everything - site looking superb and well managed - just wish the bar had been open! Have found a gem in Maria (or as I refer to her as my "fairy godmother") who will keep an eye on our villa. We had torrential rain last weekend which highlighted a few problems which we hope SWB will rectify. A friend recommended we had a day at Shayna beach and we were not disappointed. Ate twice at Joya restaurant where the food was excellent - good idea to book.

Hi Arthur,

I couldn't agree more about the cats, when we were last there in August we thought along the same lines about a program of neutering for the cats.

We like cats and there's one there who is particularly affectionate and would make a terrific pet.

Unfortunately when he comes and jumps on your lap along come a dozen of his mates and eating your food becomes a bit of a struggle.

A nightmare situation would be if you locked up to go back home and a cat was locked in when you left, not a nice thought.

So we would gladly make donations/support any ideas that would lead to a neutering program and keep the SWB cat population under control.

The idea of a book and DVD library is great and a good way to fund the neutering programme. I will bring some books over at Xmas to donate if RMS agree to it.

Thanks for the support on the ideas re the cats.

I'm sorry to say no progress on the final road surface- I'm getting fed up scraping the bottom of the hire car every time I put it on the drive. I'm also not convinced that the drains are robust and the road may need taking up if there are problems with the drains.

NN- you are listed as a "retired solicitor"- does this refer to legal work or soliciting??

Given your "NN does" postings, it reminds me of the story in the Bible where the crowd were going to stone the prostitute to death when Jesus said "let he who is without sin, cast the first stone".

Hi guys,

I've followed this forum for a long time but not posted any comments and think it is time to do. First of all, to present my self, I'm 129 PL aka Solskjaer Mansions on United Hill.

We have stayed at the premises for 4 weeks now and have 1 more to go. Not much to complain about except som usual minor snagging issues.

During this time we've experienced all from extreme heat to a tornado and tropical rainstorm. Good to be here as we have found all possible leaks in the apt.

All has been recorded on camera and if you are interested, it can be found on a web site I have, http://www.noteberg.no. Select Sweetwater Bay og Kyrenia from the meny on the left. More pictures will come, but it takes time to transfer thru a 3g network. The web site is in a server I have in my summer house back home, so be patient, it may be a bit slow from time to time.

We have made a lot of new friends. Thanks to Arthur and Jackie for a night cup or 6 after a gathering around the pool.

Andy- you need to be aware that Steve at "Stevies" is a Millwall fan, but to be honest I guessed. Despite that, I think he's a nice bloke.

How is the old angling thing, or have you decided it's cheaper and quicker to go down the fishmongers?? Rocky agrees with me, and given the high esteem in which you hold us for "financial expertise", I'm sure you'd follow our thoughtful & considered advice!!

i rang andy today who tells me he as no idea when top tarmac will be laid, says its the local council who will only let it be done when they have checked all the drains , they wont allow final tarmac to go down untill they passed it off.

When we were there we didn't put toilet paper down the loos & we've decided because of the somewhat fragile nature of drains in NC that we will continue to bag up toilet paper. However Mike and Alex did have to jet wash the drains, so I apologised for being the cause!!

On a serious note though, if the drains need jetting out because of a blockage [or perhaps a collapse], I don't think it bodes well. I hope the council or SWB carry out a CCTV survey of the drains to see that they are okay.

Hi All,

We are here and planning our next trip Sorting the log burner to keep us toasty for New Year. Then its planning our dates for 2010!!!

I am hoping it's no news is good news from SWB and RMS. Things must be getting quieter now with the majority having taken over and Emek now off site.

Our neighbours have been and checked on ours for us and all was fine even after the rain etc.

Heres looking to next year at SWB when everything has settled in.

Andy

Forgot to mention me and Ron went to Valley View lake [keep forgetting turkish name].

we had approx 20 odd little fish each scale perfect commons and mirrors Ron got bored catching bits and went on the tip within an hour he lost 3 big fish throwing to a tree in the water.

There were a few anglers on the day we went and we they all had a few fish one lady had six commons in her carrier bag all avering a pound and a half I watched her for about 5 mins she was fishing the pole at about 5 meters with about 6 pieces of corn on the hook fishing in about 5 feet of water.

If I dont see you before see you at the Zark saturday remind me to show you the STEP video.

Andy, your step won't be properly christened until AF has gone into one & kicked a cup of tea over it.

I still see you're taking the expensive [and long winded] route to getting fish. Don't they have a fish counter in Morrisons in your neck of the woods?

Hi Andy

Just a little bit of info for you . The lake at Arapkoy is now rather difficult to get to as someone has built a stone wall around the olive groves were the road to the dam wall was . You have to access it by means of driving through the farmers field . When i did this last week the farmer was a little bit Pi===sd off .Anyway decided to fish off the jetty at Esentepe (TBV) Caught my first Zaragonna (Gar Fish ) it weighed around 2 kilos three foot long did a tail walk when i hooked it put up a fantastic fight ! I also hooked three others and lost them. Another lad who was fishing also had two of them. So if you cant get to Arapkoy try fishing of the Jetty they should still be in when you arrive in NC.

Best regards Ronaldo

Andy

Forgot to mention about the lack of access Ron wasnt joking when we went the other week we had no problem driving past the farmers house but when we were coming back he stopped us and said his field was closed to Anglers for access.

Spoke to Ron tonight and he said use can still get access via Valley View but you will have to park at the top of the big hill on the right It shouldnt be to bad going down but maybe a bit of a hike getting back up but thats how the locals get access.

We did ours through Naomi Mehmets office just basic wills but at least we have them. Your UK wills do not cover anything in North Cyprus.

Hi Andy and everyone else

Long time no see!

Its the first time i have visited the forum in a long time and i've just read all the posts on this thread (i'm goggle eyed now)! Everyone seems really settled in and am looking forward to being there now. Prior to reading these posts i've been dreading our next visit.

I'm so glad to see you will be there on 25th thats when we fly out. Are you flying with Thomas Cook at 4ish? thats who we fly with anyway! Andy will this Maria you've mentioned keyhold for anyone? If so can you give me any contact details? She sounds great, we've been a bit worried about arriving there because we only get there really late and we havn't managed to get any contact from anyone at SWB i don't want to say much about that on the open forum. I can email you if you don't want to post them on here.

Hi everybody.

My name is Wonsil.

I am just about to complete my site 133PL this November.

Please advise me about snagging process and electricity meter installation.

I was informed that I need to pay 860YTL(to Electricity Company as deposit) + about 400YTL (electricity meter installation).

Can I contact an Electricity Company to install a meter or do I need to use RMS for that?

Also, when can I get back my deposit 860YTL from Electricity Comapany?

I would appreciate all guidances you give.

Hi Wonsil,

You can do it yourself but it can sometimes be troublesome. RMS did ours for us before we arrived and the deposit and meter charge was £187.30 then we paid a fee to RMS for getting it all done which was well worth not having the hassle and arriving to electric all sorted. Connie will also sort your first bill out for you and can also deposit some money on your account if you leave her instructions.

Email mint1955@blueyonder.co.uk if I can help with anything else we completed back in June on C41.

Meant to say for snagging you literally go round with a list and note anything that is not complete/finished properly or missing then talk through with Andy and hold back whatever money value is in your contract for snagging until all is complete.

Now when I say all..... you will find a lot of little things like marks or scuffs that we felt we were not too worried about but definaitely the bigger things need to be sorted before you part with your final payment.

Lots of these things will get done soon after you do your list but some will not be done when you are on site so you will need too keep an eye on things as we are still waiting for 4 larger jobs to be done even though we have been assured they have been done (by Marietta in SWB office) when in fact we know they as yet havn't so we are waiting until we go and see for ourselves at New Year.

Nothing happens in a hurry but you will get there

we have encountered very similar problems to you and hopefully we will get something sorted when we're there next week and you in the New Year.

hi shiela , its a small thin cable thats supplied with all hi fi units that are not classed as portable, it fits into the centre coductor of the areial input at the back. if your taking a portable it will have a telescpic antenna instead.

we took a none portable unit over and i pick up loads of FM transmissions through the thin ferrite cable. if you dont take this cable you will not get much reception.

Yes we received it today. Well done on naming the bar I guess the first round is on you As phase 3'rs it looks like our communal charge starts from January 2010. I think we have had our moneys worth out of the initial SWB period expecially the really early completers. As to an owners committee it would be good to hear what people are expecting from it and what support it will have from owners and how do others see it working as an infomal group.

It's not before time that a newsletter is issued- and most welcome.

I think a lot of the previous disinformation could have been avoided if SWB/RMS had put out more regular newsletters telling everyone not only what had been done, but also what hadn't been done- and the reasons why.

One thing that springs to mind would be for SWB/RMS to have a "question & answer" listing on their newsletter which could cover most of the owners queries raised.

I'll live with the name "The Bay Inn". I just hope [for Mike's sake] that it has a satellite TV so that those who want can watch footie or whatever- otherwise Rocky will be putting on his Mod rubbish on the jukebox...............!!!

Andy, I thought "the Jules Rimet" would have sounded nice.

I'm keeping a bit quiet about footie at the moment given the league table, perhaps AF might take a leaf out of my book. Blind and deaf maybe, but don't criticise them for not being fit.

Andy I think its more of a case of seeing who wants to set up a group like the norwegians have already done it can only be informal due to the legalities in NC . It just means that a spokesperson/s can then talk to all the interested people about a subject or take forward to Mike the thoughts of the group. As far as the accounting side of things is concerned I think Arthur and Rocky have already said they are happy to look at this with Mike.

Hi Andy - I got it too - very professional and thorough - Im impressed (a bit beyond me in parts if Im honest) - certainly appears to be clear on transparancy - it seems to suggest a degree of protection for the owners - what do you think of it? Its a step in the right direction tho' cos we do need something in place soon esp with RMS talking about starting dates and contracts etc xx Hope you are all well and enjoy your visit during the school hols..... cant make it myself but hoping to get over for Xmas....? xxx ttfn jac x

Hi All

Yes we received these documents and I have spent most of this evening trying to read through them to make sense of them - they're not easy! I have replied to Dr McCarthy to request that they are translated into layman's terms because I think it's important we all know what we're getting into.

The association does seem to be very formal and, as you say Andy, already set up! It's great that we're finally getting the ball rolling with this. However, my initial concerns are that of charges; having read through it all, it appears that not only will we be forking out for RMS each year but another cost for the association - I will clarify this though.

I think it's important that any information we get on an individual basis either from the Association or from RMS be shared so that we are all kept up to speed with everything and to ensure we're all being treated equally and fairly.

I am sure I dont know do you?

Whilst it has been made to look like it is set up already it has been done without consultation of the owners.

I have requested the names of the founding members and also for the name of the person giving my email to Shaun McCarthy to be named.

I agree there should be an Owners committee but is this the way other owers want to see it work?

Email me off board if you prefer.

I haven't had time to read everything fully; I will be making a full posting on this subject at the weekend. I have no objection in principle to an owners association by whomsoever formed, as long as it properly represents the views of the owners as a whole rather than clique.

Hi all

we too have got the email. Is it just me or do any of you see signs of Moira and Keith here?

If you hit reply to all then it goes straight back to Keith and Moiras address. I have asked for the detals of the founder members and received a very vague and patronising reply.

Whilst this gentleman may be trying to setup something he thinks that owners will want he hasnt consulted with all the owners and without the majority of owners support it cannot be recognised.

what is so wrong in having an association, properly run with a constituation I dont understand you lot - you would rather 'trust' an unknown MC (not saying they are untrustworthy ) above fellow owners that have the same interests - be warned many have and had a lot more than there fingers burned !

As long as there contituation is in place with rules and regulations and transparency what is hte problem, if you dont start out from the outset as you mean to go on you may will be overidden on so many levels.

Nothing is wrong in principal. But lack of honesty from the people behind this proposed association has given rise to far more doubts than good feelings especially after the nasty rounds of unsolicited emails and derogatory remarks in reference to both SWB and RMS from these very same people a few months ago.

I do not like to be bullied into something I dont understand fully and I have asked for some very basic information and as yet I still haven't had an honest answer.

I would love to see the owners at SWB all working together without having to resort to this level of secrecy and officialdom.

I am assuming Sienna you are friends of the people concerned and I understand your loyalty but this site is not for a minority there are 146 units to be considered.

Sienna is from a site not connected with your site and has certainly stirred up trouble in his time on one or two sites.

Isabella I am a 'she' not a 'he' no trouble just the truth as usual if you class that as stirring trouble then fine. I am not interested in your opinion one bit. We now have a site running correctly with openess honesty and transparancy and a great atmosphere. I know that is not your wish to hear 'Isabella' but there you are as usual nothing constructive to say from you - no change there then ! just swipes with out substance

Message 171 no I am not friends with anyone on SWB just giving you advice from experince that is all and you are right working together is the key that includes the management company I have no loyality to anyone on SWB site just talking from experience that it is better to start how you mean to go on

I have sent a long and detailed e-mail to Shaun McCarthy, setting out a number of questions and various issues in the Mem & Arts that I think are wrong in principle. Once I have a reply I will set out my thoughts, either for or against. Until then I will keep my counsel.

Sienna I am glad you have a great site but that doesn't mean we have to accept what is potentially being forced onto us by a minority of people who are resident onsite full time. It is even more important for non - resident owners to feel comforatble with the arrangements being proposed.

They are not giving any concrete reasons and have made it quite clear over the time we have been involved with SWB that they wish to remove RMS without having the common decency to address these matters openly. They have a poor record for communication and are unable to write even a simple answer to a question in an email.

Having looked at other posts you and (I thinki ts your partner Martin) seem to have a strong opinion and I dont wish to have a debate through you on this unless you want to help with facts to help me properly understand issues that may arise. I understand your concern for bad mangement but why should I believe this group over and above the manegement company we have in place

Of course Arthur it is good to ask questions and gain clarification. As owners on every site, everyone has a right to do so, lets hope if they are interested in everyones thoughts and feelings they will give you the appropiate answer. After all thats what it is about a two way road, but remember not all of you will agree all the time but compromising setting up a strong constitution with guidlines together with a voting procedure will see you through good luck

Mint I do have strong views on MC because I have experienced badly managed sites and now have experienced how things should and can be run. IMO it can only be done if you work with the MC and the MC work you and the Association .

I am not saying anything againts RMS at all at this stage as they have only just taken over the site. What I am saying is that it is better to start an Association so you as owners have a collective voice as to how you want your site run, they are YOUR properties and therefore you should all have a say as to how things are run and ensure there is openess and transparancy - if you are worried about others railroading the site then join the committee. I am not siding with one or another it is not a matter of sides it is about taking control of your own investment and ensuring the site is run smoothly and as cost effectively as possible so that you can improve your site year on year, if the MC are serious they should welcome all views anyway

I am still waiting for a reply from the proposed residents association after receiving their initial email.

My question was - Who are the initial owners who have set this group up?

So far the reply I received from Shaun McCarthy .....

I cannot think why you would want a list of names other than mere curiosity. I can tell you that, at launch, we were a group of seven British, four Norwegian and two Russian owners and, of course, we are now adding to this all the time. You yourself would become a founding member should you decide to join before we elect a committee.

This answer does not fill me with hope for an open, honest and transparent asscociation.

Sienna I think you are a little more involved or at least your other half Martin Millzer is as it looks like he is on the private forum for Sweetwaterbay Owners!

Is he helping set up or guide the proposed Association as you have had good results with yours?

Which then brings rise to the question why is he on there if its private to owners on SWB.

no we are not involved one bit in the current assosiation but for some reason Millzer is on the mailing list. I think this stems from the very original MSN forum that was formed as he helped owners on SWB as he did for Turlte Bay initially, just to help owners get together, dont know whether you personally were part of that way back then but please delete no problem.

I must admit your question is quite valid about the members and not a very good answer !!! :(

Hello Everybody

I have just got back from a weeks stay at the bay, landscaping, plants, trees, grass looked fantastic, the bay inn is just about finished looked very smart just the finishing touches to complete, went snorkling down in the sea off our beach loads of fish in there I have been told that the beach area will be cleaned up in april after the winter storms with a large sand area planned and a jetty, could be very special down there with a bit of effort. There still seems to be a bit of interest in the unsold units I spoke to a potential buyer myself as they were shown around. All in all a lovely quiet week in brilliant sunshine cant be bad for the end of October.

Sheila, we couldn’t agree more, why doesn’t Shaun answer your request to disclose who the founding members of this association are, a legitimate question I thought, he is after all asking us to support him and come forward and join this group, when so much is said about the importance of being open and transparent on this forum, we think this is a fair point.

We are more than suspicious about this set up, we spent September on the site and most days around the pool areas and we saw no notices or spoke with anyone else there at the time who said that such a group was being formed and asking for owners to join and now just a few weeks since we have come back, we find this is all set up and offered as a fait d’accomplit.

We urge all of you owners reading the e-mail that has been sent out by Shaun McCarthy to study carefully what has been sent out before you sign up, there is much in there which is complicated to fully understand, but leaves us with many questions and suspicions, We are sure that Mr McCarthy will say, then in that case join us and bring about a change if that is what everyone else wants, but in signing up this group, doesn’t that already suggest, that we are in agreement with what is already set out. If we are honest, we feel this is a stitch up, brought about by some residents already on site, why else doesn’t Mr McCarthy come clean over the names of this group, we would feel much more confident, if the hands of those residents already on site who have an agenda of their own, (their wish to have RMS removed as the maintenance company and to run their own maintenance company) where proved not to be involved. These residents have used every opportunity to try and discredit RMS, TBC

RMS, even using this forum, and when they got challenged, started their own private forum.

We want to belong to a democratically set up Residents Association, were the views of as many of the owners are canvassed before the constitution etc is set up, not after, this may take a little longer to set out, but to use the old cliché, Transparency is all important.

Mr McCarthy, felt it necessary to state his background when sending out his e-mail, but failed to prove he is actually a resident, what property is yours Mr McCarthy, I am quite happy to state we own 115PL (apartment 3), we spent January to April living on the site and again all of September, we have seen much on the site and have met many owners during this time, and have had lots of interesting conversations as to how others would like to see the site run.

As Mr McCarthy is new to the site, he may not have the bigger picture, and may only have a one-sided view on what has gone on in the past, so come on Mr McCarthy, come clean about the founding members, alleviate our suspicions, we all want a well run site, but one that gives everyone a chance to be involved right from the beginning.

homebird I dont think there is anything to prevent us starting another residents association if we dont have the transparancy we expect from Dr M and his team. Indeed I will be discussing this with others and a legal rep in NC. I would prefer that we operate as one group with a limit on the proxies people can hold. when on a complex in spain the guy living on site persuaded 40% to sign over to him. That gives too much power to one man wottufink.

Rocky we totally agree, we want a RA that is run for the benefit of all, lets wait and see what DR M has to say, if he is still evasive then maybe the answer is to start another RA rather than be railroaded into joining this one. What happens on site should not just be to the benefit of the residents on site, it is afterall a holiday complex, we want the chance to enjoy ourselves and not be burdened with too many rules and regulations.

Good luck with the legal rep in NC, as it is important that we get the RA set up correctly right from the start.

I have been in long and detailed correspondence with Shaun McCarthy, and have just sent him another e-mail. As I have expected the various residents to please give RMS a chance, likewise I would ask those who have posted above to give Shaun McCarthy a chance to answer my latest e-mail. I have also asked him to give permission for our string of e-mails to be circulated to all owners who have given permission to disclose their e-mail addresses. I don't expect people to read through the Mem & Arts, but the points I have raised and the answers that Shaun McCarthy has given should be fairly clear, and yes, it's fair to say that some answers given have not yet been full answers, hopefully the reply to my latest e-mail will be full and complete.

So please, at least for the moment, give him the benefit of the doubt and await his reply.

Arthur.

I would expect every owner to read through the Mem & Arts in detail and get them checked by their own solicitors. I think signing up to this association without a full understanding of what you are getting into would very naive. There are certain aspects that appear [to me] to give the committee full rights to do as they wish without consultation with the owners.

I will go back to my naughty corner after this posting -

so what difference does it make that a group of you guys can start your own association and expect others to accept but another group cant. You are confused.com and need to stop snipping at each other and form an association between you all coming to a comprimise and stop working against each other, it always seems to happen on complexes there are always two factions it so silly becasue you are all onwers wanting the same thing!!! dont you what is best for the site

Marisa, So many people are now coming forward and saying they are not signing up with this proposed Association and refusing to be party to it. Without the majority of owners this association will not be recognised anyway.

The whole point of my correspondence with Shaun McCarthy is so that I can [hopefully] highlight all the areas where in my opinion the Mem & Arts are defective. What I want to see are Mem & Arts that ensure that all the differing groups of owners will be proportionately represented and that no minority can gain control. Equally, although the committee should be able to make day to day decisions, fundamental ones such as the change of management company should be by a vote of all the owners. If I [and other owners] can be assured that the Mem & Arts have been amended to address these concerns, then we should all be happy.

However, as I have said before some questions [particularly regarding the subscribers to the current document] have still not been answered. Reminds me a bit of Blind Date, but without Cilla Black!!

surely like any Association it is one owner one vote therefore how can they only represent the minority everyone has been asked to join, Yes, they are not excluding anyone, you have to start somewhere if there are items you dont like or want in the 'mem & art' I would imagine at this stage if you put yourselves up for election on the committee and together with a democratic vote you can change it by majority vote, if you say so many are opposed you need to join together and then vote by majority to then change the mem & art accordingly

This is what I mean it matters not who starts it it is how you participate in it

As you are not an owner unfortunately you can not have all the facts. Only a few have been asked to join, others have had their email addresses used publicly even after they have specifically requested they are not.

Joiining something where you cannot get the most basic questions answrered doesn't bode well I dont want to be stuck with something i do not agree with or I am helpless to change as all the facts were not forthcoming before I did so.

More helpful maybe would be if you could help by sharing how your Asscosiation is run as you have said yours is working well?

the problem is Mint you are discussing on an open forum so therefore expect others to comment:

Our Association together with owners on our site have VERY successfully changed things for the better and now have harmony and a fantastic atmosphere I just feel its a shame that when you purchase your property you have to have hassle, as it is totally unnecessary. but you have to look at the whole picture objectively

However we do still come under constant critisim ie Isabella above whom is not on our site and is also not intune with full facts or wishes to believe others conjecture and constantly snipes and gripes but the proof is on the site therefore I am not willing to discuss on here. My email is open to anyone

Following msg 192, I have not received a reply from Shaun McCarthy to the e-mail I sent on Tuesday. I think it is only fair that owners see my reply to Shaun's original e-mail, his response and my follow up. I have therefore forwarded them to Sheila [Mint] and also Mike at RMS so that hopefully they will be as broadly circulated as possible.

I very much hope that ALL owners will take the time and trouble to read carefully through the Mem & Arts, review the points I have raised and Shaun's replies. If apathy reigns, we will all get what apathy deserves.

hi sheila

we havent had any probs with our nilesat from when it was installed in july, as soon as alex got into appartment she switched it on and was watching crime scene on fox!

only leak we had was in one of the toilets but it was sorted by ferrit day after we reported it.

shame bar wasnt open but mikes made the contractor re do a load of work.

also power cuts where a nightmare so take battery lights and candels

hi shiela

there are about fouteen english channels on the nilesat free to air service, two fox channels which show US general entertainment and about four news channels ( bbc world cnn euronews ) and another i cant remember, alex watched a music channel which played current dance music.

if you want more like sport and movies it will cost more . there a various systems like dopi tv( not sure what this is exactly) or the showtime service which is the pay tv service from nilesat.

ive found the nilesat free to air adequate for what we want to watch while on holliday anyway i would rather go fishing than watch tv!

Hi Andy

Are you over for Xmas? What dates? We are there from 27 Dec until 10 Jan. It would be great to meet up again - defo have a few scoops in the Bay Inn - if it's open - if not we'll organise our own party - again!

How was SWB? I take it the weather wasn't up to much but it's gotta be better than being in the UK (and Germany!)

Kurt's currently in the Mess getting drunk - nowt new there!

Give my love to Sue and Alex

the bar is looking great they are working hard to finish it and the site is being judged this weekend in a competitiion. Mike said the bar awaits the alcohol the licence but the 32 inch flat screen tv has been installed so we can watch Ipswich Town. Of course the site looks great the roads await the final finish. There is increasing ineterst in the site with more reservations. Mike and Andy admit most of the problems are electrical but they have a good electrician now who is working through the problems. He sorted out some problems for me whilst i was there and was not impressed with emeks electricians. Edith had got the go ahead to improve the beach and install a floating jetty. I suggested we should dump some big rocks off the left hand side of the beach and have a small marina, sweetwater banus... hey watch the properties rise in value (now dont be sily we await the Oram decision which apparantly is a draft decision and there are rumours both ways) depends on EU and money methinx

Hi all owners should be aware that last Monday 9th Nov a little man from the Belediyesi was walking around the site stuffing what looked like supermarket receipts under the doors. Lucky I was there I took mine from him. I also found the previous one where the print had been washed out in the rain. These are bills itemised in turkish and from the top are for Octobers water usage, if you have been metered, Rubbish collection 35ytl, street lighting 35ytl, mossie spraying 40ytl and at the bottom any previous bills unpaid. Of course to the left of this there is the penalty charge mine was for one month unpaid 1point 09 YTL not expensive so not a worry. Also you cannot get cut off for unpaid water bills but unpaid electricity bills you will be cut off. As RMS suggested I set up a bank account in Tatlisu (opens Tues and Friday mornings only) closing the Girne account I never understood the queueing system.Tell your property managment company (RMS or other) to collect these for you.(cont)

unless you have set up standing orders as I have. Sorry the penalty charge (Gec Zam) was to the right of the bill. I was told that the KIbtek bills are stuffed in the meter box. I have put up a posting box by my front door so hopefully the litle man will pop my bills in there!!! do you think so??? I must say the weather was superb warm enough not to require any heating and not too hot so the Air Con was not needed. Also the green shoots of recovery (something our Gordon could look at if he went to NC) meant a green hue of young grass was visibie on many areas which were parched in the summer ( I think Gordon needs more than rain though) and I noticed the sheep and goats were getting fatter, no rude comments Arthur please.

Not sure how it works MInt if u aint gotta water meter surely they cant invoice you for water but can they invoice for the other charges does n e one know?. N eway Im not sure these canvas sheets people have had threaded and fitted over their terraces are very durable and if you have lighter colours they discolour and show mould etc. It has been suggested the darker colours blue and green may be more suitable by a local expert. I had a look around and noticed the garden centres use a mesh for shady areas and I thought this could be suitable wottufink has n e one tried this and where can one get it? It seemed to work and the plants looked happy n e way.

I would start one but I am to busy still trying to work out if I have an outside tap aor not as I have varying reports and if I have a bill from the Beledisere somewhere!!! Other small issues are do I have shelves in my kitchen cupboards yet - I so can't wait to be onsite

Other than that I have busted my back and am walking around like a gorilla bent double being really pathetic as I cant do a lot except knock cups of tea all over the place.

hi all

hope everyones keeping well!!!! i spoke to maria last week she told me my apartment had been damaged by the rain, SWB/The builders are having to replace my whole wardrobe as it basically got so wet it collapsed inside, and also something to do with my sides?? think there was a fault with the building works between my flat and the one upstairs.... maria said they are working on it and have covered my furnitures so fingers crossed none of that will get damaged. . .
