If you read this forum. I have got him he is safe. He will be fed graduallly when he can take it. Monday he will be at the vet. How could yOU |

Before this thread jumps to (wrong?) conclusions: Lilli, your care for animals is absolutely above doubt. But some dogs do run away or cannot find their home again. If the owner turns up after reading or hearing about this thread we may all be sorry for the harsh words.

That may be true Dutch and is a fair point, but seeing how animals in general are treatd in Cyprus the former is more likely. If he has got lost and is loved then when Lilli takes him to the Vet he'll be microchipped and re-united with his owners.

Liz, you are an angel. Lets hope that it`s the same situation as Margaret and Graham had with Pedro. How he survived all the weeks he was away I dont know. It sounds as if this poor soul is in the same condition as he was. Fortunately, Pedro found his way back. We think he must have been locked in somewhere.

Some months ago, a member of this forum known as Viking Queen, otherwise Liz Ben, lost her Kangal in the Alsancak area and posted the picture of the dog on her. Fingers crossed it might be the same dog.

Here's the link louthlass mentioned in msg 11: http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/12904.asp If you click on vikingqueen's nickname you get her profile with a picture of the Kangal (uploaded by Izzet). The thread doesn't say that vikingqueen's Kangal was ever found.

Last year I had a Kangol turn up on my doorstep close to the Ciitrus Tree Hotel in Alsancak, so I put a posting on the net and asked around bars etc. Eventually the owner contacted me and was very upset because he and his family had lost the dog 3 days before, he was a Cypriot that worked in Nicosia. He lived, if I can remember, down near the Merit Hotel, just past the green coast (now Mosquito Bay) hotel, although he came to my house so never actually been to his home? Maybe worth a look with the dog. Steve

H Tarry I will try that but he cant walk very far at the moment. His back legs are very weak. He can only pee pee sitting down as he cant raise his leg. I have been with him all morning just got in now.Pertev cant see him till tomorrow. If anyone has lost the lovely dog he is with me safe and sound. I spoke with Liz Viking bt I dont think its Busta as from her discription he is a lot darker. He didnt respond to that name either. He looks like he has been on the streets some time. xx

Hi Lilli This poor dog is not the only one that has been left behind by english people someone also left a male dog up i the mountains to fend for himself he didn't have a clue how to do this and just by luck he was found and taken to Kar he to was a bag of bones and very dehydrated, He also responds to English and is a very loving dog. I am so glad that this poor animal found you before it was to late. People need to wake up to the fact that if they need to return back to the UK then don't leave your pets to defend for themselves because they can't.

Sad to see an animal in that way and hope he gets a good home. Not all locals/Turkish are indifferent to animals. I remember when I stayed at Salamis there were stray dogs poisoned and one lovely Turkish lady (artist) was trying her best to look after the remaining bitch with puppies. She was trying to get someone to take them on as they were in cellar of our building but I was leaving at time. Don't know what happened but don't have much hopes for them

Thank you Leskey and Phyl. Its really sad when people have to leave for whatever reason but seeing how these poor souls do not cope has really upset me. I hope as some suggest that he is lost and the owners will welcome him back. He is a very loving character and has responded well to us today. We took him to the beach but his legs are very weak. I wont put him back on the street. Tomorrow he is going to the vet to get checked and maybe put on a drip . Then I will get his big long coat off him and cleaned up. Will go back to see him and take him out again once I have walked my lot xx

Lilli.. well done my dear. the credit crunch must be biting hard on some folk if they have to abando a dog because they cannot afford to feed it.I know somebody has said it may not have been abandoned, could be lost.maybe, more likely escaped or abandoned. If the person who is responsible comes for him Lilli, give him a large piece of verbal for letting the dog get in that sort of condition. Its a pity public flogging has been outlawed in the western world, maybe it still exists in the Muslim world. One can only hope..

Coachie, Slow down a bit If the dog 'got itself lost' some weeks or even months ago, which is perfectly possible, how can you tell the owner off for 'allowing to get in that state'? Piling speculation on top of speculation does no one any good, let's wait and see what facts we can find out, and see what happens eh? lesleyd, you wrote "This poor dog is not the only one that has been left behind by english people" Could I ask what evidence you have that this animal was, in fact 'left behind by english people'? Best regards, Keith.

Didnt Lilli say the dog understands English commands keith, so either the dog is lost or dumped. It is very strange that so many dogs seem to get 'lost' in NC. I think coachie has hit the nail on the head re credit crunch, as once £10 to feed a big dog a week was just like having a hobby, but when it comes to having to give up something, some thoughtless people just pass the problem on or drive out into the country side where the dog doesnt know its surroundings and dump it, bl--dy cruel to do either........

I am certainly not a religious person. But got one thing to say about slagging off the local,"muslim" public in this part of the world. specialy, you(mr so called coachie) Racism and Culture are two different things. they certainly dont fit together Relegion is another matter! Nobody flogs nothing here.Everyone buys at their own will. Any of you wants to look "angel"! do it at your own expense. What if that was a dog that was found few months ago, made better, put back on streets, and back to square one again! You want to do something good!Do it and shut up. Stop slagging off the locals. If you dont like it here that much!Free lift to airport from me when seen one way ticket. Coachie:My houses in UK are now sold,I'll be coming over to get on the dole que with everyone else as well. I am BRITISH after all.LIKE IT or LUMP IT. You moan about how things are in UK when you are there, and you moan about Cyprus when here

As usual some people change the subject without any reason. this thread it's about a poor dog and to try to trace the owner or a gentle soul that can take care of him, not about muslim or dole or potential race discrimination. if anyone want to talk about the above subjects you can always start a new thread. guido

Lilli, are you having any funds from any where to help with the vets fees and the food that these strays need? perhaps it seems that someone or the English seem to know that you will feed/tend these animals. Could this be another reason why the dogs are coming your way? Could somehow, some funds be raised for the help towards these expenses? Just a thought, as in England now but help can be made available via somebody/something....... lol x

Coachie me old beaut, think a lot of the dumping of dogs is done by the English! most of the English have a lot of dogs which I do not have a problem with, but if you read on this forum there are English fed up with whatever and then I bet you anything a lot just clear off and leave the dogs/cats for someone else to sort out. The English folks that live here and are not moving back do keep trying to help. A burden likely to increase.lol x Yorgozlu, I think you too are a very kind person to help, but I can see that this is not going to get any easier for any one actually living in NC. lol x

Since there are no (un)official figures available about "dumped dogs" by Dutch, Brits, Belgians, Russians, Cypriot Turks and a handful other nationalities I think we should stop accusing any nationality. It doesn't help a bit. All we can do is trying to help where possible - and I DO know it doesn't help to solve the bigger "dog problem".

DC, not really blaming any one, but you only have to look on this forum to see the English are looking for others to take in their dogs as they have to leave. As Lilli is always taking in these pups/dogs, somehow, us, that do not live full time in NC, could help, re funds or whatever. I look at kar and think, the dogs there are well looked after, but not an ideal life is it. So many dogs and cats that need homes. How do you suggest that the 'bigger problem' is addressed? ...

Hiya Natile and Yoro. He has been to the vets it appears he is a cross Alsatian with German Sheppard. about 2 years old. He is a little better today and responding well to us. Had injections for his pain. Frontline,Worming and first injection. Still not drinking much but Pertev said to keep him on tinned food as this contains a lot of liquid. dIzzy forgot to say with the dogs and cats I get I do manage to get some rehomed.Which its very rewarding. Unless Max (thats what Ive called him) is claimed then I will do this. xx

Hi Liz. There is some hope for this young man to recover. What a lovely picture and I`m glad to tell you that he is in no way the condition poor Pedro was in when he returned home. That does not detract from the situation you are in though and I agree with Dizzy surely we can all help to lessen your load financially.

yORGOZLU..I certainly was not slagging off the Muslim locals as you seem to think. If anything I was actually backing your beliefs on public flogging, whether it be for mistreating a dog or stealing or whatever..No dog gets in that sort of state naturally.it has to be starved of food.Even if it got free from where ever it was being held, dogs are very resourceful animals, and can always find enough to survive without it ending up like a bag of bones. You certainly have got the wrong end of the stick young man.I do NOT moan about MY country at all,I have ago at people who do not live here, who slag it off,and think that the TRNC is the best place on this planet. You have your problems there just the same as we have here ,just that ours are a helluva lot more than yours. You can come back here any time you like and sign on the dole, you will not be out of place, just they are tightening upon people coming back for that reason,so best of luck.I did not moan about my stay in TRNC,very enjoyable..

Abandoned dogs, lost dogs, escaped dogs are not unique toTRNC. we have dozens of adverts on tv here from organisations asking for donations so they can look after abandoned dogs.It should be made legal that if you own a dog, apart from the licence fee,you should be made to have the animal chipped, so if does go missing for what ever reasons, it can be traced back to its owner, who will then have to give an answer as to why the dog was on the loose.Stray dogs can become very dangerous too.You do not know what sort of disease it MAY be carrying, hence in the UK we have dog catchers to round up these animals and take them to a compound and if they are not claimed or rehomed in a certain time they are unfortunately put to sleep. Not a very nice conclusion but you cannot have dozens of stray dogs on the streets causing lots of problems. You may think I am dog hater, wrong ,I have owned three dogs in my life, but I am also a practical man who thinks of the well being of others...

A German Shepherd and an Alsatian are the same dog arent they, Once upon a time they were all called Alsatians and then they were changed to German Shepherds. So what cross would Max be? Those 2 crosses would make him a purebred surely???? I apolgise for my ignorance if they arent the same!!!!

Yes they are the same dog, apparently after WW 2 the Kennel Club changed the name of this breed to Alsatian as anything German was not very popular. After a number of years the name reverted to GSD again. Max looks a beautiful dog let's hope he recovers soon & finds a good home.

Having had German Shepherds looking at the th photos of Max he looks more pure bred rather than X breed. If only I stayed in TRNC I would take him in a minute. GS are very intelligent and loving dogs, I do hope someone will give him a good loving home but I know he will be well looked after with Lilli until then. He will be a very handsome boy when he fills out a bit. Queen 180 , your little dog looks adorable. Maybe just as well I stay in the UK or this one would have mean't I would have become an owner of three dogs in the space of a few days. Hope they can all be homed.

Do you know 4 days now the difference in him chabges by the hour. He can now stand up. He is responsive and is eating now selective. We had to mix his dog food with pasta tonight. Once we fill his ribs we will consider what to do. The state he was in and christ knows how he arrived with me. One minute I was serving customers turned around and he was there. I still think it was poison. However he is on the mend. tHE SAME CUSTOMERS i SERVED WHEN i FREAKED OUT WHERE in tonight (apoligy for caps they turned themselves on) saw him and they were the first to offer thier food they could not beleive the differene. I have seen it from lunch today. He is a different dog tonight. Where he came from I dont know or care anymore all Im glad to save him xxxxx

keithcaley Message 29 The evidence that I have is the same as the dog Lillie has it responds to commands of sit give a paw lie down come here would you say that's enough evidence?? as most of the people that have seen this poor animal plus took photo's of him seem to think so. But maybe everyone that's seen him are wrong but I think not. There was also a lovely little dog left tied up at the gates with ribbons in her fur and a little coat on and this dog has also come from English owners that couldn't offord to take her back home with them but at least they did leave a note with her and not abandon her up in the mountains to fend for herself.

Also while on the subject of stray dogs in the UK not all dogs that are found are put to sleep after a certain time there are quite a few pet rescue centers that any animal that is healthy will not be put down and will be kept at the rescue until found a home. You can also check that out Coachie.

lesleyd, I have no wish to fall out with you. The purpose of my message, as it related to 'Max' was that all of the available evidence could equally well indicate that the dog had run away, got out, got lost, whatever. I think that it is better to keep an open mind as to the cause, and simply concentrate on doing what one can for the dog. I would be willing to contribute my thoughts if you wish to start a thread devoted to 'Dogs abandoned by British Ex-Pats', with suitable examples... By the way, who are the people who have taken photo's of him, who believe that he has been abandoned? At least this keeps the post near the top! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2504/3896629689_91e5bdac86_o.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2661/3896629695_c3da514e50_o.jpg Best regards, Keith.

Think Max still needs homed, but have a feeling that if left much longer Lilli will have an added member to the family. German Shepherds know who love them and will protect that person (family) to their own death if that is the case. How I wish I could have Max but at present I know he is cherished. Lilli, don't know when I will be next in NC but whether it is you or Max@s new mum and dad (hopefully) I need to meet the mutt and bring pressies from the UK just for him. Liz you are a star. XXX

Hiya all. Max is very well now and so happy. The difference in this short time is remarkable. He is well loved and now he knows it. I think he may have been beaten in the past as he hates me sweeping the floor. We tried to get him to fetch a stick but he got very scared. He is costing me a fortune as he only likes chicken and steak and lamb with the odd bit of parma ham. He is worth it. He has become so attached to us its going to be hard to find him a home. If anybody would like a beautiful german shepard about 18 months old pleaser contact me. I will arrange to get a picture now he isnt a skelaton on here xx
