I own a villa in Ozankoy which has now been let out for about 8 months. Out tennant feels she is paying far too much for her electricity. I previously asked for information about electricity costs per unit and would like to thank those of you who were kind enough to reply. I am now confident that my tennant is paying the correect rate(s) for her electricity. Unfortunately, this has not helped me to understand why her electricity bills are so high. Our villa has 3 bedrooms, a pool and air conditioning. I would be grateful if people with similar types of villa could give me an idea of how much they pay per month for electricity. Thanks

Neil, We have been shocked at the price of our electric since we have had the pool working and especially now when the pool pump is supposed to be on 8-10 hours. We do not use air con, thank goodness or our bills would be even higher. Our bill dated 13.08.09 was the grand sum of 316.67TL and we have checked these are at the domestic rates. Without the pool at the beginning of the year our bills were circa 100TL.

Neil, On average a pool pump or 1 Air Conditioning Unit uses 1 to 2 units of Electric an hour. So the pool alone running 6 hours a day would cost you 186 to 250 units before anything else was taken into consideration. When we lived in the TRNC we used 800 to 1100 units a month and we had a 3 bedroom and 6 air conditioning units (although we never had more than 3 running at anyone time, and most of the time it was just 2 in the lounge area and dining room). Now we're back in the UK we use 275 units a month, but then again there is no pool or air con units!

Neil how many units is your tenant using a month? There are 2 of us and we have a pool running for 8 hours a day. We don't use air con very often but have used a ceiling fan at night. Washing machine twice a week, same with the oven. Don't use any other electrical appliances other than fridge/freezer, water cooler and TV. Our average usage for the last 6 months is 350 units.
