hi wife of gottheyips

you dont have to appoligise if you know for sure that this company does insure houses and contents in the north of cyprus

i know of many insurance companies in the u.k that do insure properties abroad but not in the north even thou it does say cyprus this does exclude the north so i would make sure they do cover the north first and even if they do it will be connected to a insurance company which is registerd in turkey so it will be better just to insure using a cyprus company, incase a problem does occur and you will have to claim on your policy

regards

ukturk

Hi Ukturk, A friend of mine uses them and I have emailed them to double check and they have replied saying they do Northern Cyprus. I would not put information on the Forum without checking first.

there you go people there is a company in the u.k that covers north cyprus andrewcopeland give them a call or get in contact with them thanks for the info wife of gottheyipps

personally guys thou i would still insure my property with a company located in cyprus incase anything were to go wrong and i think you would pay more from a company in the u.k because you are going thru a agent than going direct with a company in cyprus

plenty feedback there ,thanks to all.

In uk can generally find how good companies are at paying out by looking in internet, but for trnc need to go on peoples experience, which is where the value of this site is appreciated.

Hi all ..Would not touch AXA with a barge pole, mind you I am biased because it took them 3yrs to settle a claim and it had to go the Financial Ombudsman, who made a decision on the day they received the paperwork. even then they tried to delay it by requesting some paperwork but after aphone call to to the ombudsman they cough up within 3days..

Personally I believe in using local companies for insurance etc - that way if anything goes wrong you can if you wish call in and see a local agent - nothing like the personal touch - much better than ticking boxes on a computer. I insure my house and car with Chrys Ashworth at the office in Alsancak (just slightly above the Atakara Supermarket on the right hand side of the road). Insurance is with Turk Sigorta - a huge and reliable Turkish Company. As the saying goes 'when in Rome'

Keith,

I have used Turk Sigorta a well respected company for the last 3 years. My insurance to cover all possibilities was £119 for a 2 bed and £125 for a 2 bed penthouse policies clear and in english..........

We act as agents for a reputable UK insurance company (and have for about 4/5 years) who insure property in Cyprus - ther have been no problems but in the event of a claim they would need an adjuster to come up from down south. None the less I would suggest using Steve Dickinson @ Eden in Lapta as there is nothing better than 1] supporting home grown trade 2] He is local and knows the environment and costs better than a UK insurer will.

Before we get stopped for going off topic! Any chance of saying the name of your brokers to see if I remember? I understand if you don't. I was the liability manager at AXA when I left in 1997.

Sorry to be a bit scetchy here but, when we insured our house with Turk Bank in Girne 2 years ago we were only able to visit our house maybe twice a year.

To our suprise the bank rang me here in the UK to say, did i realise that the insurance was null and void if the house was empty for more than 3 months.

This came as a big shock, luckily there was not any problems , and we didn't need to claim.

A good idea to read the small print on the policy which i did and rightly said that the policy was void . Many off us are in the same boat only visiting twice a year.
