Sharn was at local school, but unfortunatly failed the end of year exams and because she is 15 they will not allow her to re-take the year (as they do in the lower school years).

So the school have excluded her this year!

She is only 15 and will return to the UK next year to take her GCSE exams but needs something to keep her busy this year!

She is good with computers and just needs a break!!!

authentichoccie, Maybe and just maybe Cyprusraider is asking which school Sharn went to because of her spelling? Just a suggestion.

I hope that was a helpful query.

I think the poor girl has had her confidence knocked enough already without a 'grown up' adding to her predicament.

Good on you Sharn for coming on here and asking for help. All the very best luck to you. x

Not much to suggest at your age but did think that you could set yourself up as a dog sitter. If you had say, three households to visit twice a day to walk, feed & water their pets 7 days a week whilst the owners were on holiday, or release them to have a holiday you might earn a few pennies. You will need some personal references and I wouldn't worry too much about work permits etc. it would be pretty hard for anyone to catch you out. Good luck.

Hi Sharn,

Hope you find something to do soon but don't forget to keep on studying, if you want to pass those all important exams next year. Best of luck with your search.

i have asked my fiancee and he said that they can hire only over 18yr olds because they will also directly start the insurance etc.. even for the part timers..but they will make an interview before hiring staff..

Someone please give this kid a break, I hated and did not do very well in school exams but I found what I really could do and do well and went on through college and eventually to university. It is finding the confidence and getting to grips with a subject that you enjoy and understand. I even managed to pass a physics exam (still not sure how). Right now she is willing to gain some life experience and in my opinion that is worth a thousand pieces of paper from a school. Given the chance next year this young lady will a star.

Sharn, sorry for calling you a kid if this makes you unhappy. The fact that you have had the courage to come here speaks volumes, very special Young Lady. I wish you all the luck in the world.

If I'm not wrong,it is illegal for parents not to send the kid to school that is under the age of 16.But please do not hold me up on that.

You could go to Ministery of Education in Lefkosa and inquire.

The person you'd need to speak to is Mr Mehmet Korkmaz and speaks very good english.

She is within her wrights to demand to go to school because not taking any child under 16 to school, would be breaching her/his educational wrights.(this info was given to me by the managing director of SOS Childreen Village). He is a good friend of mine and can contact him any time if needed.

Well, I don't know the ins and outs of the education system here, but, at face value, would tend to go along with yorgozlu. I suppose I'm just assuming the legal lower age limit for a student is 16? I stand to be corrected here. I admire Sharn coming on here and asking for help in finding a job; however, I am with The Butler's Wife in her comments about continuing her studies. Irene, you and I are the same age and I can assure you that things are not the same as when you and I were students. I am pleased that you were able to get to the place where you wanted to be, but for kids these days, unfortunately, it is (as my old Mum used to say) a 'Horse of Another Colour'.

Regards.

Jean

yes Yorgozlu is right its illegal to quit school even for a year if you are under 16. if you have failed from some courses and attended to make-up exams and also failed from them youll repeat the year..But please dont let this turn you down.

when we returned back from uk i was 16 and they told me i had to repeat year 8 here because of education differences from Uk,and in my first year i have failed from 5 lectures and had to repeat the year again!!!

i know the feeling very well. But believe me its not worth giving up studiying. i have graduated from university as high honour student and im a lecturer in a university here at the moment..You have a long life to go along and if you are planing to live in this Land you need to study to get a good job and a good life..

You can get information from http://www.mebnet.net this is the education ministries web adress or you can come down to Lefkosa and remember that i can always help you with translation..

RE msg 27, yorgozlu: (...) So,wondering where you can get your cheap "gold fassel" beer, how much the price of "kebap" has gone up by or even finding a home for a dog is more important,is it???? (...)

=> Yorgozlu, you're not very good at sarcasm (I refer to this post and one in a former "dog thread") - what would you like us to do?! This girls problem is for specialists (school system etc) or people in business. I'm sure a lot of people here would help if they could. You make it sound as if every expat/board member runs a business and is in need of (unqualified) staff. That is not the case. Your post is not fair. [ back to the top].

Sharnyparny,

Would you be willing to do some voluntary work (unpaid) just for the experience?

Just a thought, if you like animals. Does anyone living in Lapta work, or help out, at KAR? Perhaps Sharn could help out there a couple of days a week? valuable hands-on work experience.
