Just managed to crack this and can now make calls using voip/sip on 3g. I will be trying it with skype soon and hope to get it working to get free calls to UK.

Cydia is now dead for apps. hackulous can get you tom tom for the Uk for zilch. I have at least £1000 worth of apps on my iPhone

Understood Richard, I do have the info on how to unlock 3.0 iphone which is the only way you can get this to work but it is a big instruction file so I would have to e-mail it directly, hence the offer.

I had to get my iphone unlocked to work in NC as it was locked to Dubai, excellent phone but a bit of a con really that it is locked to one server.

I agree ataturk, it is very easy when you have the information on how but I was quite happy with my phone without this until I moved to a new network otherwise I would have been paying international rate calls every time I used my phone in NC and bearing in mind that my wife and daughter also use iphones it would have been extortionate.

I use fring app on Iphone 2g OS 2.0 to make voip calls through a sip service.. It's free to call UK! I have to be around WiFi Connection thats all. The fring app is downloadable from the Apple app store for free.....

I am able to download some not all you are right.. The particular software fring which lets me configure my own voip(sip) service and make free calls over wifi network works fine with os 2.0... Software also allows skype calls, which are expensive!!! I prefer my own custom voip service..



I prefer to keep my version os as long as it thats all I need.

i have a 2g running 3.0. have used skype on wi fi. jailbreaking/unlocking is fairly easy to do. go to modmyi.com, its a really good site.

Ive tried before on a 3g phone(to make skype calls), I cant really say the quality is as good as Wifi.. Keeps breaking up! Also it is expensive to use 3g skype calls better to be patient and get to a wifi hotspot to make a call!!?



Skype out calls use about 12kbps of data to make calls(source: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=32510) Turkcell data costs are 0.002637 TL/KB so



kb/s x cost = 0.031644 TL/s TL/s cost x 1min

12x0.002637= 0.031644 0.031644x60=1.89864 TL/min



Not to mention the cost Skype charges you for a skype out call.. Turkcell calls to UK landline are 0.42 TL and

1.46 TL to UK Mobs.. It is significantly cheaper and easier (even if you had an emergancy call to make)

to directly call the UK landline and mobs directly through Turkcell GSM compared to Skype Out on Turkcell 3G.



So the conclusion is that even though cool, practically it is not cost effective to use Skype Out on 3G networks.

The phone companies are well aware of the fact!

Can I ask have you made a skype call direct with 3g on your iphone using the skype app. As far as I am aware you are unable to do this as the networks will not allow this, you are not allowed to use skype on 3g to make a call. With regards to the cost to make a call it really is irrelavant how much bandwith a skype call uses as I would personally get an unlimited bundle from telsim/turkcell. My phone billas are 6-700 tl a month. The quality may not always be 100 per cent but the cost makes a big difference.

Thank GOD we have the 3 network in the UK.. First network to ALLOW Free SKY calls in and out on the mobile... AND it works with SKYPEOUT ..



Now I can make/ receive SKYPE calls ANYWHERE when I have a network signal ..don't need to leave the PC on..







Let's hope someone buys SKYPE from ebay before it is ruined by spammers

Zerochlor I am referring to cyprus which is what I thought mess 20 was doing. Skype on 3 has been available for a while now it had to be as the network was going nowhere fast.
