Reported on BBC web news ... "a freak tornado tore through the capital of Cyprus today... thankfully no one was killed but many injured due to falling trees and flying debris etc" Hope all members out today are ok?

Report went on to say this type of weather is very rare in Cyprus hence the description of "freak" tornado.

Be interesting to know if anyone noticed a real change in Cypriot weather over the last few years?

Drove to Lefkosa today to pick up our new car.

As we got over the mountain the sky in the distance was very dark.

As we were driving towards the dark clouds the heavens opened.

Hail stones and very strong wind...the car was literally shaking.

All the traffic lights were out as the power was down and the police were dragging trees of the road.

Spent a good hour at the car show room waiting for the rain and wind to die down before feeling confident enough to venture back over the mountain in a new car....very scary journey.

Good heavens! What time was all this? I was in Lefkosia, at Immigration (holed up inside, waiting patiently lol)

and the only thing I noticed driving back was heavy cloud over 'our' mountains!

Darn, I miss all the good stuff!

Blimey, I missed all the action and I was only in Kyrenia .... it didn't do any of that over on this side of the mountains!

It's the only time I can honestly say I wish I had been holed up in the immigration building with you instead of driving through the storm!!!

We hit the storm about 3.15pm and it really was scary.....didn't help that some idiots still carried on driving like boy racers....including a taxi driver that we estimated was doing at least 140mph!!!

Have to say it was a relief to get back to "our" side of the mountain....blue skies and sun!!

Hi Jock re msg 6

Thanks for the link !

Ever heard of http://tinyurl.com ? ;)

The worst hit part was a place called Tseri just south of Nicosia on the Motorway to Larnaca/ Limas(s)ol.. I was talking on Skype to a good friend of ours ( nr to Tseri ) and he opened the window and turned his camera to show us the "flooding"

We took great "pleasure" to be able to show him clear blue skys in Glos'shire... we can't "win" that one very often ! ;)
