I am looking to bring the family on holiday in North Cyprus this year, and am tempted by the Acapulco Hotel. Anyone have any experience of staying at the hotel? Any helpful hints? Thank you, Sandra Brown

Just discovered this forum, so here’s my experiences from a trip last summer. the Acapulco Hotel is a good choice for families who want to spend all their time in the sun or the water! It has good clean swimming pools, waterslides, a fun park and a crèche – hooray! The hotel also has a great beach, where the sunloungers and parasols are free, and the sea is safe for young kids to paddle in. A lifeguard is also on duty, which is reassuring. My kids (4, 8 and 10) also enjoyed having lots of other kids around to play with – made my life much easier!

As some of you know, I also operate a travel agency and we do sell hotels. I can definitely recommend Acapulco to all ages with no hesitation. The acapulco beach is superb. You won't find a pebble in the water - all sand! It's shallow for some 50 metres so it is very safe for children as well, compared to other beaches. I think just the beach is enough to book at Acapulco Website: http://www.acapulco-cyprus.com/

It seems teenagers love the Acapulco Beach Resort too! Found this review on Yahoo from last August (2006): “Think this hotel is excellent for families. I'm 17 years old and I've had a fantastic time at Acapulco Beach club.. I have now been twice and hoping to go again next year. All the Reception, Lobby, pool and breakfast and dinner staff were brilliant. To get to the main town it is a 10-15 minute bus ride from Acapulco to Girne/Kyrenia, which is helpful. Beach is lovely and I loved the Animation team!!” Think they liked it!

Forgot to tell you last post, the best rooms at the Acapulco are not the villas in the grounds, but the rooms in the main hotel. Villas are great if you want privacy, but I preferred to be close to the bars and restaurant! The best sea view rooms are the even numbers, with views over the hotel terrace and the sea. A friend upgraded to a suite and said it was worth every penny.

The great thing about the Acapulco is that it’s just 15 minutes bus ride from Kyrenia (yes, I would say that, wouldn’t I!) The hotel offers a free air-conditioned bus to and from Kyrenia (Girne) so you can explore this great town whenever you like. If you want to stay in ton and have a meal at one of the harbourside restaurants, a taxi back to the Acapulco Hotel will only cost around £6.

Why eat out?! We had great fresh food at the Acapulco, and the choice at the buffet suited every member of the family. Just hold on to your plate – leave it unattended for a minute and the staff will whip it away, they are so enthusiastic! OK, I admit, the dining room may not be the most romantic place, but on our holiday, the family all enjoyed eating together. The breakfast buffet is continental in style; my youngest was amazed to find cheese and cold meat on offer for breakfast

One point; the beach can get crowded in the summer, as non-residents can come in for a small charge. There’s a great way round this, though, plan your sightseeing trips for the weekends, when Escape Beach itself is busy, and get the best spaces on the beach during the week when everyone else is working hard!
