Does Gangsta rap encourage listeners to criminality? For example encouraging weapons use, spousal abuse or homophobic attacks. Would you say that it glorifies a lifestyle that is rich with imagery of criminality (e.g. gun use and drug dealing) and that this sends out a subconscious but consistent message affirming criminality?

Should the government censor lyrics of songs that are violent or expletive, for example “gangsta” rap?

Where do you get these "questions of the day" from?

My answer: No!

burty, not questions as such. Just trying to get some debate going rather than reading some of the vitriolic stuff being posted lately.

All this modern music should be banned!

Lets get back to wholesome music, such as:

Lou Read: Walk on the wild side. 1973

Frankie goes to Hollywood: Relax. 1984

The Byrds: Eight miles high. 1966

Sex Pistols: God Save the Queen. 1977

Beatles: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. 1967

Meatloaf singing 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll'.

Though should Sir Cliff Richard be banned yet again for being much too nice?

I would also like to ban Paul McCartney,.... mind numbingly boring!

I also hate Modern Jazz and Heavy Metal!

Mr Angry of Ealing.

One of my favourite songs is the old Peter Sarstedt song - Where do you go to my Lovely. Great Lyrics.

You could always get the girls to dance with you when that came on. )

Or those memorable words every DJ has heard for decades:

"You got any 'Quo' mate?"

RObnJo: Well what a coincidence, was only racking our brains at work last night, trying to remember who made 8 miles high.

As to the original question, I don't think music influencies people to do nasty things, although it has often been quoted that it does (helter skelter). Same with films and computer games, I used to love all the blood and gore movies, but it didn't make me want to go out and do the same, well not always ;)
