Bertie,

We used airpets - one tip is to source the air kennel yourself on E Bay - it will save a you quite a bit...

Cost depends on size and weight of animal - Airpets will give you a quote - must say couldn't fault their service.

Hope this helps...

Bertie,

We can assit you if you want to emial me off board.

I am told our prices are reasonable and we have had no complaints (a few hiccups can happen with any travel).

A lot depends on the size of your small family member, what you have already done to prepare and where you would be flying from.

Do remember that you also have quarantine to account for whrn your pet arrives in North Cyprus.

Hi Lilli - That would be excellent, unhappily not so in the other direction though.

Thanks all our dogs have their passports they are two spaniels I read somewhere about rabies blood test a month before they fly but wasnt very clear about the specifics as they fiirst had rabies inj 3 years ago. I wondered if anyone had anything in particular to recommend say cta over say Turkish airlines or has anyone any experience of Pegasus flying dogs.I to would love to think they will only spend a day in quarantine as Im sure they will wonder what on earth is happening to them as it is

Turkish - not easy Pegasus do not have the facilities so it is KTHY which we can book for you as part of the whole package with our associates who do the animal care and cargo.

Hi Nick

1] you do not need to use a specialist for most pets you coulkd try to do it all yourself

2] What do you think we do at IAH? - We use a pet specialist but they have a little extra experience as they are also an equine specialist too.

3] The kennel off e-bay is an excelent idea but price and size one up from the carrier company as rules have recently got a little tighter (such as pet headroom) and you need to know the hold door size too.

Also listen to Tom. Get allangles. We used Airpets some five years ago. they were great, but costly but then my oldmen were worth every penny, enjoying their latter years in the Cyprus sun!!

We brought our dog here 4 years ago. We went into the costs with Airpets and it was extortionate. Someone tipped us off that you could do it yourself by taking your dog as excess baggage! Yes its true. We had a crate made to the specifications at a firm in Manchester and spoke with a man at CTA in London who dealt with pets and he told us what to do. We had to weigh the crate complete with dog and he issued a ticket for him at a cost at the time of £6 per kilo. We checked him in with us at Manchester and he was waiting for us when we got through passport control. Customs then rang the Vet department in Lefkosa and they came to pick him up. He was in the kennels for less than 3 weeks, when we went each day to feed him etc. It cost us with the crate and his jabs about £200. We had to fax the UK vets report and jab records to the Government vet here before coming but it all went smoothly and certainly less painful on the pocket. CTA were very helpful and we could not fault them.

mess 10 - sorry Tom, i wasn't trying to mess things up for you...

With CTA, the tallest air box that would fit is 31"..

i bought a plastic air crate, 31", used only once off E Bay for £10 plus £12.50 p & p..

From memory, the Airpets quote went down by £350 with me supplying the transit box.

Another point about doing the paperwork yourself - there was a million other things to do - it was a releif to drop the dog and cats off at Airpets he day before and when we got our luggage at Ercan, they were there waiting for us....

Just brought our cat and dog over 5 months ago from England.

Quarantine is 21 days and you have to feed, clean and walk them yourself, we went twice a day not a good experience for dog, cat and us!!!!!!!

Nick that’s OK - it's just that we try to use the best specialists and advice around in all aspects of our business and implying that Airpets are the best and we are not was a little aggravating. I guess you did not mean it that way so sorry too.

I agree that there is far too much to organise for such a large move and a wise decision is to do as little as you can yourself.

Different aircraft can have slightly different hold sizes but I do go on the 31" standard as well. I understand where previously you could squash a "tall" dog in current rules say no.

Our people have also quoted for flights to the South for owners with pets that are too tall as we can get a higher hold going down there. The only problem is we were not able to find out from the TRNC chief vet what the import procedure over the border might be.

As usual if we can assist we are happy to try to.

hi bertie

we flew our westie out two months ago, phoned cta and they gave us the carrier agent details, we had already done most of the work ourselves i.e. import license, export license, rabies jabs etc. it cost us £600 to use the agent, but cta don't let you fly without using them.

it all went very well, we arrived the day before as they couldn't put us on the same flight, but at least we were there at the airport to meet our dog when she arrived, they let us see her when she got here and we followed the vehicle to quarrantine and were allowed to settle her in.

we were allowed to visit her every morning and every afternoon, feed her, water her and walk her in the compound.

it wasn't as bad as we were expecting, although it was the height of summer, she was in a compound sheltered from the sun and the people there were very reasonable, relaxed on the visiting times.

remember to take cleaning gear with you, it's down to you to feed, water, walk and clean your dog.

as i said, the guys that work there are very reasonable and the chief vet is a nice guy.

play ball with them and they will play ball with you, if you do that then your dog may get time off for good behaviour.

hope this has been of some use to you

Catrina - unusual for CTA to recomend an agent - thank you for proving it can be easy, as you say you had done most of the work.

Berite - good luck whatever you choose to do.

My friend has just brought a large german shephard dog here (last week) - it was too large to fly into Cyprus ( as CTA will only transport up to a certain height box - 31 inch I think ) anyway the dog came by plane to Turkey and then by ferry to Cyprus (Girne) - with all relevant papers in order .

On arrival in Cyprus the dog was taken to quarantine in Lefkoşa for 1 day - apparantly this is the new rules for dogs with relevant paperwork in order .

Hope this is of some help to you - of course your dogs are samller and will fly staright here!!!!
