Guess who Tony Blair could be sworn in as first EU president very soon if voters pas an EU reform treaty. France and Germany are with TB.. Under the Lisbon treaty a single president can be chosedn. Ireland vote again for the Lisbon treaty wherby the voted NO previously. Due to the economic downturn looks like and opinion shows they will now vote YES. How strange they can choose a president from a country that hasnt yet adopted the euro .

Blair was not opposed to the Euro, but practical regarding convergence of the British economy with the Eurozone. On a world level, Blair was a "big hitter" and many feel he would be at ease on the same stage as Obama. A high profile post demands a high profile politician. If not Blair, then who?

"Europe" wouldn't want a high profile politician from a big country as President. For what it's worth: rumour has it in several (big and small) European countries that the Dutch Prime Minister, Jan-Pieter Balkenende (a Christian Democrat, who speaks all important languages in Europe), is the main candidate. Last week Mr. Balkenende in Dutch Parliament explicitely refused to guarantee that he would stay for his term as Prime Minister.

Dont panic Even if Irish role over the Czech Republic have referred it back to their courts. The Czech president who is anti EU has stated he will not ratify treaty until court process has concluded. Some think this is a delaying tactic to give time for the Conservatives to win a UK election in the Spring of 2010 as they have promised a referendum on the treaty. If that happens there is no chance the UK public would vote Yes therefore end of treaty HOPEFULLY
