Hi....I hire my car from the south....the car is always ready at Larnaca, the drive is easy, just buy the additional ins at the "border / crossing" ( 35 euros ) You can contact Maria for a car via 0035799693058, she is based in Nicosea not sure wether this helps?

All I would say is that if you hire a car from the South you have to realise that if you break down or have an accident in the North then it is your responsibility to get the car back to the hire company in the South, also you will only have the bare minimum of insurance when you purchase at the 'border'. Far better to get a hire car company in the North to pick you up from Larnaca and deliver the hire car to your place of residence in the TRNC. Look at the top of this thread for a company that will do it or failing that contact Seveners at infoatsevener-group.com replacing the 'at' with @ AJ

Hi....If you are responsible for the accident, you will need to arrange to get the car to the border, if it is someone elses fault...last year, someone went into the back of me, all was sorted by the police, car back on the road in 3 days, meanwhile I had another car hired by the guy who hit me...he also paid the bill. The insurance closes about 1am - 2am...you may be cutting it a bit fine, you cannot cross without the additional ins. If you do, you have the freedom of the whole Island inc the Trodos mountains

Would it be possible to purchase insurance with the car hire company from the south prior to flying. In August my wife and family waited 1hr+15 minutes for a taxi booked from the North and the car we agreed to hire was a newish Hyndi Matrix not the clapped out Ford Focus estate with no tread on the front tyres so for this reason it would be easier to hire from the south and drive up.

Jimmyboy63, The simple answer is no. No car hire company in the South wants their vehicle to goto the North. As stated before, have an accident or breakdown it's yor responsibility to repatriate it to the South. Kevnmax, it appears that all car hire companies in the North will do Larnaca pick up and return, but these days it comes at a price that is usually £50 each way. I remember the days when hire was cheap and pick up from Larnaca was free. But that was in the day when fuel was less than half what it was in the UK and a third of what it is now.

The simple answer is no. No car hire company in the South wants their vehicle to goto the North mess 8 Timothy Where is the company advertising at the top of the page from??? Mess 7 yes it was a company i have used on my last 4 visits normally there is a Hyundi Matrix parked in our drive when we arrive ,this time they took my wife and family to the office the other side of Girne after midnight to pick up a clapped out Ford Focus with no fuel in,luckily enough there was a petrol station open in Alsancack otherwise she would not have made it home to Karsiyaka

Jimmyboy63, Yes I agree that the company at the top of the page is based in the South, and yes, they say you can drive to the North. They are one of the few who say you can, but don't tell you the extent of the small print. They go some way by telling you that you need to get seperate insurance at the border. You cannot get Fully Comprehensive. The insurance will be third party, excluding fire and theft. So if you breakdown, the car is vandalised or stolen it is still your responsibility to repatriate the vehicle and yourselfs to the South before the comprehensive insurance that you have taken out in the South can come into effect. But they'll probably find a loophole in that to not collect your vehicle as the accident/breakdown/theft happened in the North. Taking a hire car from the South to the North is a risk you must decide to take.

We have been using Cyprus Pines, based in the North for the last 3 years, excellent service will drop off and pick up from where you are staying. Larnaca to Kyrenia £40. Always fairly new if not new cars. Highly recommended
