http://www.brtk.cc/index.php/lang/en/cat/2/news/55968 Mr Davutoğlu said that the European Union violated its own principle not to accept a country which fails to solve its domestic problems and conflicts with its neighbours by acepting South Cyprus as a member in 2004. Criticising the European Union for accepting the Greek Cypriot Side as a member in spite of its rejection of the UN Peace Plan, he said Ankara would continue to press Greece for a solution in Cyprus.

I fail to see how Greece can influence RoC to say 'Yes' to a solution. RoC's strongest argument is that Turkey continues to maintain a 40,000 strong force in KKTC - in fact, and please someone correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I am aware, a 'Peace Deal' has never been signed; so, technically, both sides are still in a 'state of war'. Has Turkey given the UN any indication of intention to drastically reduce troop numbers as a sign of goodwill? This will be the EU's excuse for its broken promises to the TC's for saying 'Yes' to the Annan Plan.

Msge 1 Hi Bill It was a poor decision allowing the GC's to enter the EU without a Cyprus agreement. The reasons may have seemed logical to the EU at the time but the unintended consequences are proving unsatisfactory. Bulgaria and Romania failed to solve their domestic problems, however, they were allowed in to the EU. The EU's goal back then was to assimilate all in to it's fold. Now with the credit crunch, the EU, and Germany in particular, are having second thoughts about it's growth. msge 2 The ICG has stated that Turkey will talk directly to the ROC if Greece brokers and attends the meeting. Perhaps we should be asking ourselves. Why would Turkey be thinking this way? All answers welcome

Msg 3: 'Perhaps we should be asking ourselves. Why would Turkey be thinking this way? All answers welcome ' Even though, for them, it's 'only a p!ss in the bucket', maybe Turkey feel they've 'shelled out' too much for too long, with nothing to show for it but criticism and ostracism from the major economy EU countries... which poses the next question: does Turkey want a 'divorce' from KKTC, and why would it?

Once AGAIN.. the "rump" RoC's accession was ensured by Greece.. who threatened to veto the enlargement process of 2004. This was the socialist regime that has just acceded to power in GR , again. GR wanted to be rid of the CY issue as a mater of it's domestic policy - and neatly passed it on to the EU. The old GR govt wanted TR *IN* - if only to make TR responsible for the policing of the EU's Eastern most borders.. The old GR govt wanted the Cyprus govt to advise the people to vote YES to Annan ..

Finally, TR KNOWINGLY signed up to an accord promising to open it's ports and airspace to ALL EU members - AFTER the "rump" RoC had joined...
