Is anyone doing quad bike tours in the Girne/Lapta area? Of the two companies that are advertising in the Buzz book one 'Quad Bike Safari' according to Turkcell, has a number that is 'unassigned' the other 'Quad Bike Tours' has their number connected to a fax machine. Any ideas?

Last year the Govt, changed the ruling and Quads are now classified as agricultural vehicles and as such you need a suitable licence.

Both the quad bike people gave up about 3 years ago. We were approached by a Brit who thought of setting up, not only do the taxes and duties come to nearly 100% but drivers must have a tractor licence. You can rest assured that all the ones you see on the roads are driven by the holders of such licences! Another tourism attraction bites the dust.

If they need a tractor licence then why have I got a fat little Brit kid of about 12 years old popping up and down the road without a care in the world? No road sence at all and could care less for anyone walking - just so long as he can show off on two rear wheels - killed a lot of people that trick - and drive on the wrong side of the road so he ain't in the traffic on the main road! There seem to be lots of these things about these days - driven sensibly they are ok but leathal in the wrong hands as lots of farmers have found out for themselves. Mainly kids and under 25's who can not handle a motor bike seem to be the racer set. Hope the fad dies out quick before the riders become extinct!!

Thanks for your replies. I guess quads are out of the question so the next question is 'off road' bikes, can you rent and what are the age limits for hiring. Also is there (this time of year) anyone doing organised off road trips? AJ

there is a bloke called "Harvey" who does motor cycle tours to the Karpaz on 400cc Honda road/trail bikes. Went on one last year and was very impressed... A shed load better than a quad anyday - have you ever ridden a quad on the road ? - not for the feint hearted...
