Just noticed that HSBC have been taking out 30TL per month in bank charges - seems to have started last month. Annoying thing is that they seem to be charging per customer number rather than account number, i.e. 2 lots of charges on a joint account. Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't checked my account yet but are you a Premier customer? It may be that they have decided to charge for Premier or possibly if it is Premier, your account doesn't meet the criteria. We were told this a while ago as we moved all our money to another bank but maintain a current account for credit cards etc. If they are now charging I will leave completely.

Eileen can you please let me know how the charges are listed on the statement so I can check mine.

Thanks.

Jo,

We were premier customers but, like you, moved our money some time ago. I will be checking with them why there are 2 lots of charges on one account. We do have some money paid in monthly and I also pay electricity bills for us and some of our neighbours from this account but because of these charges there wasn't quite enough to cover one of the bills this month. So it's going to be a bit of a pain to close the account.

The bank charge entry is MÜŞT. SINIF KOMİSYON TAHSİLATI999999 NOLU MÜŞTERİ -15.00 TL. Where 999999 is the customer number.

Thanks Eileen. I had a quick look but couldn't spot anything. Were both lots of 15TL next to each other on your statement?

There's a word in there that is "komisyon". This would be commission in Turkish. Is there a possibility that you've been charged for moving some money over here from the UK. & not necessarily bank charges?

I have no HSBC account here btw. Just trying to help.

I agree it looks like that but no transactions of that nature and this is the 2nd month that we've been charged.

If you had a premier customer account and have fallen below the amount to qualify for it (can't remember what the amount is?) they'll charge you for using that Premier account, we was warned they would start doing this some time ago, I've just looked and they have been taking 15TL since June (the thieves) they still charge for a basic account but check the bank to find out how much, 4 - 5TL month I think ? needless to say I'll be moving my money elsewhere this week.

Keep your eye on the ball with banks they sneak charges in without any or very little notification.

I went in today for the first time in 4 months and they have taken from my ordinary account 1.50 tl in June rising now to 1.98tl this month so not so bad.
