hi guys

im sorry im getting all political today on the forum but if we all keep together however small or big we are we will get heard eventually people power!!!



as most of all you guys know that live or visit north cyprus it does not have direct flights this due to many factors one being south cyprus have put embargoes on the north especially since they joined the e.u and of couse the icao does not reconise ercan airport as a international airport so us in turn have to suffer unessary time, money and effort to fly to north cyprus aswell as our familes and friends that want to visit us who live in the north aswell as the tourist trade (they cant be bothered with the extra journey time)



so after much researching and scouring the net i managed to find out who the president of the icao is a dr Assad Kotaite and got his email address and the organization postal address and wrote him a email concerning my fears about non direct flights told him about the numerous petitions i have signed to number 10 with no good outcome and hopefully he can see the injustice we are suffering with worthless embargo lets see if i get a response

below im printing his email address and postal address if any of you guys feel as strongly about this as i do

Dear Dr. Kotaite,

Re: Direct Flights to North Cyprus and Turkish Cypriot Human Rights



I am writing to you to express my continued dissatisfaction at the fact that direct flights to North Cyprus continue to be disallowed despite international opinion (with the exception perhaps of the Greek administration in South Cyprus) vocally supporting ending the isolation of the North and thus permitting direct flights.

Turkish Cypriots have been isolated from the outside world since Turkey intervened to safeguard their survival following a Greek Cypriot coup aimed at uniting Cyprus with Greece in 1974, and have had their human rights denied by Greek Cypriots abusing their positions in power since a UN presence was posted on the island in 1964.

Even today, Turkish Cypriots continue to suffer under economic, political and social embargoes. Their right to freely trade, travel, communicate and, in general, to deal and integrate with the rest of the world has been denied to them by the Greek Cypriot authorities. On this point it is important to note that the internationally recognised ‘Republic of Cyprus’ does not speak for or represent the interests of Turkish Cypriots.

And all this despite having voted to accept a UN brokered unification Plan in 2004! In response, the international community pledged to reward the Turkish Cypriots' positive vote by ending their isolation.

Turkish Cypriots are still waiting!



like i said if north cyprus cant be heard politically then maybe its time the people be heard

this is a very important quest cos if the government dont listen then we shud take this up with the big brass of the icao maybe he will listen!!!!

i agree everyone shud sign but im quite surprised there are over 1500 members on this site and only a hand full of people have done it and this concerns us all not just a minority and only takes a small bit of your time

I've emailed as I would love more than anything else the flights to become cheaper and easier as probably like most of you I will be leaving family behind,my Parents are in there late 70's and my dad thinks he's loosing me because I will be so far away,my son who is 24 and like most that age is allways skint so for my sake I would like cheaper flights as it will be me who pays for him to come over

i cant belive out of all the members on here only a small portion of you have signed and sent a email to the icao i cant see why you havent dont you guys want direct flights or is it because you cant be bothered cos it dont directly concern you come on guys im not asking to do this for me im asking to do this for a country we all supposed to love and in the long run it will benifit us all in the respect of cheaper fights, less time and much needed tourisim to the area
