HI, just a reminder of the Karakum Sunday Market. It's getting bigger, but it still needs more stall holders and customers to make it into a grow into a really good market, so please come along, either to sell or as customers and give it your support. Thanks.

£10.00 a stall, but as far as I know, (unless it's changed)the first time you go Peler doesn't charge you.

Is the market associated with a bar/restaurant? If so, £10 for a pitch seems a tad high given it generates income where traders & buyers take refreshments!

we tried it today first time for no charge and it wasnt too bad.

we took a flask of coffee and some food and I saw others doing the same. nobody seemed to mind A few punters were buying drinks at the very small cafe there.

I hope it will grow it could do with a bit more advertising I think.

Where do the people who visit the market park?

Last Sunday was just a mess of cars left in the side of a narrow road or dumped anywhere provided it was not more than a 20ft walk away!

The road down from Ozankoy is not very wide at the best of times and with people just walking straight out into the road as well, there is a recipe for a disaster starting here.

Maybe park along the front of the main road or well off the side road would be an idea - whatever happens it will be the stall holders who get the blame for any road accidents there, that is always the way of things and it would be sad to see this growing market close down.

I went last Sunday and parked on a 'building site' next door, as did others. What happens when everything is built up remains to be seen, but I did see a drive way up the side of the market site, which I guess is the BowlingCar Park which folk should be able to use.

The cafe has good prices and presents good value for money. The market has about 25 stalls some of which are already at Lambousa on a Saturday, but it has a nice friendly atmosphere and definitely provides a service for those living East of Kyrenia.

I suggested to Peler that he could do afternoons, as Sundays is a bit of a lazy day, and maybe families would turn out later. It is early days, but I think this could take off. Give it a whirl and decide for yourself. Hopefully more stall holders will try.

As to the cost, I heard it is 10, but 10 what? Ten pounds sterling seems a lot , but I am sure Peler is open to discussion. Lambousa is £7 I believe, so £10 at Star is a bit high, but I don't know, so shouldn't really

oops, ran out of space! I was going to say 'shouldn't really comment'. Give Peler a ring to get the facts.

See you there - but not this week, it is Eco Day at Buyukkonuk - something some of you might like to attend - after going to market!

Karakum Market is held at the Star Bowling Alley on the east coast road coming from Girne take a right hand turn opposite K Pet petrol station. There is ample car parking in the bowling alley car park and stall holders are charged 10tl for a pitch which includes a table.

For those of us who live east of Girne it could prove to become a very popular venue just like Lambousa has, however this will only happen if there are more stallholder's to attract the buyers.

Anyone looking for Home Made Fayre I have a stall selling delicious quiche, pies and pate.

I know many of you don't read Cyprus Observer, but there is a virtual full page spread in there, giving all the details of Peler's phone number; photos of some of the stall holders, etc, etc. Hope it will entice a few folk along. Personally I think it is great if both sides of kyrenia have a market to attend, and particularly if similar stalls are in operation at both.

And as to the Eco Day, sorry you missed it, but there will be others later. Great to get out into a 'real' village and on the Karpaz. Probably the next one will be next April - watch the media.

It's on the same of the road as Karakum's Lemaar. If you park at Lemaar it takes 25 minutes to walk to the market.

And the same back, so watch what you buy.

Will read parking instructions more carefully in future. It never seems that far when I'm in the car

Hi, My fault on the price, yes of course it is 10 lira, don't know why I put pounds, we live in Cyprus not England. Lambouse is also 10 lira a table. There is plenty of parking in the car park, you just drive up the alleyway of the Bowling Alley and the parking is up their. Their are some tables, but first come, first served, or else Peler tries to make them with planks of wood on boxes, or of course you can bring your own. Their is a small outside bar that does teas and coffees and toasted sandwhiches and of course beer etc. all very reasonably priced. Last week my neighbours had 2 coffees and a toasted sandwich for 9 lira.

Each week it is growing with more sellers and more customers. The veggie man had lovely fresh fruit and vegs last week. Remember when Lambousa started it was only small, I can remember when we were thrilled the week their was 40 tables.

Anyway please give it your support if you can.

Any chance of the pie guy's and that delightful Indian Lady with the curry's that go to Lambousa starting to come to Karakum? The home made food options always seem to go very well at all the markets so why not give it a try over this side of the city as well?

Just a thought. Is Mermaid Fabrics and/or the small arcade of shops just down from there open on a Sunday? If not it may provide for alternative parking that is not far away from the market.

There is heaps of parking if people will just drive up the side alley, that runs along where the market is, to the Bowling Car Park. I don't understand why people don't.

I haven't looked if that small arcade of shops is open, will have a look if I remember next Sunday.

I would also be interested if it could be turned into an afternoon market or anytime from 11.00 onwards. Not many people like getting up so early on a Sunday.

The first ever market, (since I've been here) was at the old Corner Bar and it ran for years from 11-2pm on a Sunday. Always went well.

Wouldn't everyone prefer an extra couple of hours in bed ????

I agree with Metin, and will pass on his thoughts to Peler - unless of course Metin goes on Sunday morning (late, of course, as do I) and share his thoughts with Peler himself. And the more that do that, the more Peler might consider being kind to those of us who are hinged to their beds on a Sunday morning (well, most mornings if the truth was told!)

Don't forget the market this Sunday, please help to try and make it really busy. Personally I prefer Sunday morning, and you would be surprised by how early a lot of people get their. Sellers and customers arrive even earlier than at Lambousa.

Like Peanuts , I hate mornings, and that is why I c\an't help out with a stall. (Actually, I have other committments many Sundays, but nothing too early!) Cheshire Homes is going to start a stall on 1st November, if possible, but so far only one lady to run it. Could anyone volunteer to help Frances Allen, if only for the first day. It would be a really loving gesture. Hopefully she may be able to find others to help her, but just for the first Sunday would be great!

Blakey,

Would have stopped today but could not find anywhere left to park on either side of the road - both sides full and parked haphazardly all over - but of course less walking to do for anyone who was there.

Here is a novel idea now - Why not use the parking area at the rear of the bowling alley?????????????

Or is it just too hard to drive down a single lane - just like at Mr Pound - to get into it because cars are parked on one of the lanes as well, just so you don't have to walk another 3 mtrs.

Oh yes, this was at 09:15 as well so I guess if you come later then you will need to find another route into Ozankoy as the road will be a car park and full.

Yes it's crazy as their is a huge car park at the back of the Bowling Alley. I will suggest to Peler that he puts a sign up telling people to drive right in and not park outside.

Surely you can't call it a sunday market.. it's more like a sunday car boot sale. Junk, tack and a waste of time taking time out to visit.

I should have spent the morning by the pool. The only good thing was the stop off at Mardos o the way home, for pancake and ice cream....delicious

I have to say, I visited this market for the first time this week and picked up some really good and cheap bargains !!! There is also a really nice atmosphere there. Smaller than Chateau, but well worth a visit.

Different strokes for different folks......

I'll be going back.

Not to confuse anyone but the actual Karakum Sunday boot that Peler runs is on the Bellapais Rd, next to Pembegul Garden centre/K Pet petrol Station(200yards from the Altinkaya Hotel).

The one at the Paradise bar actually comes under Catalkoy.

Just to clear things up a bit. Dont know why this very old post was started up again maybe to cause confusion.

The Star bowling market split into 2 market/bootfairs. Peler running one & moving to Bellapais rd, Garden Centre & sandy staying at star bowling which then closed & moved to Paradise Restaurant in catalkoy.

SO THERE ARE 2 MARKET/ BOOT FAIRS ONE IN BELLAPIAS RD ONE IN PARADISE Restaurant

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

It would have been better to start a new post rather than take an old one to use.

Sorry, but getting confused here??? According to their website, Paradise Bungalows are located in Catalkoy, http://www.paradisebungalows.com/contact.html, ergo nothing to do with Pelers Car boot at Karakum, Which is which?

This is Very Confusing to Me. The Exact location of The Market run by Elaine on Sunday is at The Paradise Restaurant Car Park and it is on the Catalkoy Coast Road ( Behind Lemar Supermarket Catalkoy, Next door to Cratos Premium Hotel, 100 Metres Away from The Sea. This is open from 8.00am to 1pm.

There is also anouther Market on Sunday run by Peler at the Pembegul Garden Centre, Next to Kpet Petrol Station on The Bellapais Road, Open between 10am - 3pm. So their is 2 Markets you can vist on a Sunday.
