Idea in a nutshell: I could build and maintain a web page with text and pics of dogs, cats etc that need to be (re)homed. Just mail your text or text + pic(s) to me and I'll update the page. All available animals on one page makes it easier for everybody (I think).

Or should we keep the animals competing with each other in numerous threads?

What do board members think?

Lost animals (text+pic/pics) could be on the page (mentioned above) also.

Maybe Izzet could make a thread with the URL to the web page (mentioned above) a permanent sticky.

Hans,

Initially it looks like a good idea, - from an organizational viewpoint that is.

However, I think that you might perhaps be limiting yourself (and the animals!) to a selection of the (on-line) Public who are actively seeking an animal.

The beauty of including the appeals for homes for these creatures in and amongst the general threads, is that it may just 'tug at the heartstrings' of people who might NOT be actively thinking of adopting a pet, and might therefore, not be inclined to look at a specific PETS page...

I remember your determined (and successful) efforts to re-home a dog on the old TRNCVO board, where you defied all attempts to move the posts to the 'PET' section - you were right then, and I think that the same reasoning applies now.

just my 'Very Humble Opinion' of course!

Keith.

Dear Hans I would like to keep the topic going as you know my rate this year alone is 14 maybe 15 dogs gone to good homes and 7 cats. only two more to go and I am confidant I will. I agree in principle but we keep it to the top xxxxxxxxxxx

Thank you all for the replies. I've given my idea some afterthoughts and I admit that Keith Caley's remarks make sense.

I'll think about an alternative. (My problem is that keeping a thread on top of the list is rather time consuming and it may then annoy other members who are not interested in the difficulties of pets). Wisdom needed!

Hans,

I entirely agree with you on: -

1) your reservations about annoying people - but you've just got to do it for the sake of the animals, and put up with any possible flak; and I've got to say, that we've not really had any on this board, despite PERSISTENTLY shoving the poor animals practically up people's noses!

2) The time involved in keeping the thread on the first page, which means posting at least once a day for each animal thread - although the current animal owner / finder / carer can help with this...

Actually, I've been relieved that Negative Nick hasn't proposed renaming the Forum "Keith and Hans's Animal Emporium" - or some such, because it must get on some people's nerves occasionally, especially those who don't particularly like pets, and I'm very grateful for the level of tolerance that all members have shown regarding our (repeated) postings on this subject.

Perhaps other members could tell us how they feel - NOT just the obvious 'supporters' though...
