Can anyone tell me what the current exchange rate is here for sterling. Got a friend coming on Saturday and want to confirm whether it is better for her to change here rather than in UK.

Thanks.

Hi

Today is 2.53

If you need to check it look at Garanti Bank site it is updated regularly and what you see is what you get. It is always better than UK travel exchanges. Even some hotels will give you that rate without commission.

Thanks Breezyboy. She was going to buy from M&S at 2.38 so she will be pleased.

Never buy YTL in the UK you will (almost) always get a better rate here.

When here do not use banks to exchange use one of the several exchanges scattered a round Girne.

If stuck you can always pay in most shops, bars etc in Sterling or Euros and again (almost) always will get a beneficial rate.

I totally agree with Cyprusishome. Bring sterling and exchange it here.

Agree with the above comments. ALWAYS bring as much STERLING as you can with you. On average you will get 7.5% to 10% more Lira to the Pound than exchanging it in the UK and that includes commission charges.

Do you get a better exchange rate by just using a cash machine or is it best to exchange your money before you leave?

hi matt

welcome to the forum, not sure if you have noticed this thread or many other before this, but its better to bring your sterling and change it once you are in cyprus at any bank or change office and only change a bit before you leave if you need it to pay for a taxi or in case of emergency, you can use your card and withdraw money from a atm but the exchange rate is normally quite less than you changing it personally

hope this helps

regards

You can also see the rate on this site about half way down on left. It has a direct link into the bank so will change whenever the bank changes.

If you want to follow the trend to decide when to change money, the BBC link is useful

Can view intra day/monthly/3 monthly/12 month trends

We're going to be staying near Bogaz, where would be the best/nearest place for us.

Thanks

Tiggy provincial bank , close to Troy lake always fair. Lemar supermarket happy to take GBP and give YTL change, as Kavenkoy says works most places.
