Just received a article on the internet from a property investment Company and it says Joe Calzaghe the boxer has just purchased a villa at the Colony development at Bogaz.

This reminded me that when I came back from North Cyprus at Easter, David Haye the World Cruiserweight boxing champion was sitting in front of me on the aeroplane (squashed as we were).

It set me thinking, as anybody else seen any famous people whilst they've been in North Cyprus?

Loby.

Guys,

I'm sure Lobylud is asking a serious question.

There has been a lot of hijacking of peoples threads lately and I have contributed, but I think we should make some effort to keep on track.

I would be surprised if any famous people were buying in NC especially at these prices they dont need to economise its only the working people that need to look at value for money - who cares about famous people lets have real people David and Victoria could probably buy the island if he knew where it was!!

I stand chastised. Couldn't be a marketing ploy could it? Sell famous person villa for silly small amount, then use their name on your sales literature? Happened in Dubai for the Palm development for footballers.

I know that Joe Calzaghe has bought a large number of properties abroad and it's not just 'working people' who are buying here. We want all types to give us a happy contented mix.

Famous people normally have good advisors who know a good investment when they see one and you would have to be pretty famous yourself not to say 'hey, look who's over there'.

Lorraine Kelly - I think she's lovely.

Alan Hudson - he was a great player on his day.

Roy Hudd supports the Kyrenia Animal Rescue so he probably comes here.

I also read that a lot of criminals came here when the Costa-del-crime clamped down but they don't count.

Any more names, it's only a bit of fun!!

Hi Ivan,

I'm a boxing fan and I knew David Haye used TRNC as a training camp but I didn't know he had a villa there. He was a guest on the last Question of Sport.

Interestingly enough before his last fight with Enzo Mac. I heard him give an interview on Talksport radio where he mentioned his training camp in North Cyprus and the interview was printed almost word for word in the Daily Mail the next day.

The Mail article though changed North Cyprus to just Cyprus, missing out the North bit, I wonder why!!

Take care,

Loby.

the reason why there are supposedly criminals on the island is that TRNC still has no extradition treaty with uk so criminals can live on there ill gotten gains.

especially since the Proceeds of crime act POCA came in to force

We are movong out to live in NC in July and have had to go to our local police station to get confirmation that we do not have a criminal record (cost us £20) before we will be allowed in. So how do criminals get in?

if you went on holiday to TRNC for a week you wouldnt need to be vetted by your local contastabulary, so the would be criminals go there for extended vacations and then eventually buy there etc etc.

Not sure what other countries still have no extradation treatys with the uk but it isnt many anymore

jokers2theright. Whilst you are correct in saying police checks came into force to accompany permission to purchase only last year, it has always been a requirement for setting up businesses etc.. in Northern Cyprus.

Its an automatic requirement once a business application has been received by the Registrar of Companies in Lefkosia. I did this back in 1998.

Hi James,

Call me an old fuddy duddy if you want but i am totally opposed to the Cardiff thing. Why should we have to travel to another country to see a derby game.Just to fill the coffers of the welsh tourist board. Will watch hull city at 2 on sky and then the mighty robins at 4.30.,

Police checks were being done in 2004 when we bought but it was done direct from here via Interpol (I believe). The only difference now is that by supplying the check yourself it cuts down on the amount of work the authorities here have to do and should speed up the PTB process (in theory).

If Tony Blair and Gordon Brown are looking for property in TRNC, it will only be to escape extradition for crimes against the United Kingdom

Lobylud I get the idea that you suffer from celeb adulation that is a shame. Yes if they have financial advice it would be to invest in the land or developers early on and cream off the profits and perhaps get a villa or apartment for nothing.well before the end purchasers like us hand over the hard earned cash. These celebs are only 70% water anyway I say get them out of here (NC).

Hi Rocky,

You seem to have a very big thing against celebrities, even posting now that you don't want a celebrity house name. Have they all really been that nasty to you?

Could it be that you are really famous yourself and don't want people to know?

Your name is Richard, so I'm guessing you are really Sir Richard Branson secretly checking out Gecitkale airport.

Also don't forget:

"Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes".

Andy Warhol

I looked at "Peter Sellars" villa 3 years ago and was told then that it would be a great selling point. Seems not!! perhaps they may have to re- market it as Joseph Fritzels summer residence to drum up interest!!

An interesting article in the The Mail on Sunday about the man supected of being part of the Securitas robbery in Kent. This was Britains biggest cash robbery.

Apparently according to the Mail, there has been many sightings of fugitive Sean Lipton mainly around the Kyrenia and Famagusta area where he's been seen 'splashing the cash'.

As Li n lee says, Britain doesn't have a extradition treaty with NC but President Mehmet Ali Talat has given his personnel assurances that Lupton would be deported if found, this it goes onto say is a politically unprecedented move.

By the way who's Mr Hudson.

Talking about food....heard that Kib-et have been selling pig meat described as beef meat on the deli counters and may be forced to close down. (They were buying on the south as cheap). Any non pork eaters - how do you feel about this on your dootstep? Was in the local newspaper apparently.

thats really a terrible thing to do , and to do to a fellow muslim is incomprehensable { i am assuming that kib-et is a muslim company } as a muslim myself i am horrified that this kind of thing can happen , when we go to different countries , i am always searching out non pork items , i thought all that was behind us when we bought in nc , but obviously not , is there anybody you can trust ??

regards , simbas

re message 75- pilgrim, make that ex Chelsea England and the mighty Potters, Stoke. Watched him on his debut for Stoke against Liverpool and have never witnessed such midfield genius. He controlled the game and barely broke into a sweat- considering he had only met his new team mates 48 hours before the game it was an awesome display. I think he stayed in and around Stoke when he retired.

Funny how these threads can suddenly reappear after a year in the wilderness.
