The "Alsancak Chess Club" (ACC) met today at Guido's Bistro in Alsancak. Twelve players played several "good matches" (they said...) and all promised to come back. Our regular German lady player Ilsa could not attend because of a car problem.

A special thank you to Richard (Brinsley on this board and founder/chairman of the "Girne Chess Club") who was kind enough to play yours truly: 1/2-1/2. Guido said I could have won, but it was getting dark, the beer was finished and our Italian host (best player of the bunch!) looked like wanting to go home.

A big thank you also to this board's Minertor and George, Nurse Awful's husband, who both donated a chess board and pieces. Much appreciated! The ACC is growing every week and we may run out of boards/pieces. If you have a board and/or pieces you don't use anymore, we would be very thankful... etc. Or: bring your board/pieces next Tuesday and play!

Cheers, on loan, a chess clock will be resident on the premises care of Guido from me. Best player is/was Bill/William who departs these shores until next Spring; way above anyone else!

Thanks, Richard! And agree with your opinion about newcomer Bill - although he didn't play Guido, did he? Unfortunately he played me...

Bill plays top level tournaments UK side! He has been coming to WM for the past few years when in TRNC. Scot would have a problem with him let alone Guido!

Hmmm. One should know more about a newcomer than his first name...

Dutch sorry to bother you but just re read the title. Is that the way you write the date in the Netherlands. I have never seen it written like that only our way or the amercian way. I thought it was a computor reference at first or a chess reference. then thought it must be a date. sorry if Im off thread only want to broaden my knowledge xxxxx

RE msg 8, Lilly: (...) Dutch sorry to bother you but just re read the title. Is that the way you write the date in the Netherlands. I have never seen it written like that only our way or the amercian way. (...)

=> Good morning, Lilly! Well, one is never too old to learn about the smart things in life... Indeed, I'm used to write a date as "year-month-date" (20091013 or 091013) - mainly because it makes sorting in computer databases easy and logic. But next time I'll write the date the British way. OK?

Will there be a TRNC Chess Championships in the near future? Who would the favourite be?

I'd put forward Scot and Guido, Bill spends too much time in the UK otherwise he would be number 1 candidate.

RE msg 13, Bill: (...) Will there be a TRNC Chess Championships in the near future? (...)

=> I hope so! My aim is to first build a strong club in Alsancak. Then have a meeting with the established Famagusta Chess Club (and possibly the Girne Chess Club). They may know what's going on in TRNC already. Maybe we can join a TRNC Chess Association (if existing)? Or found one? Or..? It's a slow process, but I'm determined to find out and try to have an "Open TRNC Chess Championship" one day!

=> Who would be the favourite for the title? How do we know whether there is a very young talented TC or not - somewhere..? Lots of work still ahead, Bill!

Bill, could you please change the date in the title of this thread? The way the British do it. Obviously I'm confusing readers. Thank you very much!
