had 2 FAKE emails in the last 12 hours from Abbey online banking & Nationwide building society asking me to login from a link provided in the email.

How do I know they are fake ?? I don't bank with either !!!

As far as I am aware, a bank will never contact you by email regarding passwords etc so be warned

Hope this saves someone some potential hassle

Nationswide did send out their first email a while back, full of useful information but emphasised that they would never ask for any details online via an email.

RE msg 1, donga: (...) How do I know they are fake ?? I don't bank with either !!! (...)

=> Wrong. Your software (anti-virus-etc) should have intercepted the email as "spam" before you had to think about it (and maybe would have been too naive, ignorant etc). Do nice, decent people never learn..?!

P.S. No, (--- pedantic now, again --- ---) "nice, decent people" never learn. Every 1.000.000 spam emails (or any other fake) pay off for the scammers. Sigh.

"wrong" ??............. not quite.

My software did "intercept" it & put it straight into my "junk" folder but the curiosity got the better of me so I had to see what they were up to.

I've received these as well. If you go onto Abbey's website, there is information on reporting scams. Send a copy of the email to them.
