Extend Broadband - Bandwidth

I have had UK TV installed on my PC via the TV-Club. However, I have had problems watching anything 'live' or streamed I think it is called as I am told the bandwidth from my current ISP (Sunny Cyprus), is insufficient for me to do so. I am able to download BBC channels but playback is not very good despite the fact I have a 1MG connection as I get a lot of buffering.



Due to these problems I am considering changing my ISP to Extend who I am told can provide sufficient bandwidth for me to be able to do what I cannot do at present. Before I go down that initially expensive route though I would be grateful for some comments from others who may have the same system. I know there has been another thread regarding VPN's but nothing there answers my questions.

I occasionally watch TV on my laptop via Extend and it works satisfactorily most of the time. In general though, I would say that the Extend service is less than satisfactory. It goes down quite often and their customer service line is not particularly helpful.

Had the live TV installed a few weeks ago and upgraded to 1meg. Very pleased occassional buffering but not enough to create problem. The download program very good and flexible, no problem when playing from a BBC download. Hopefully in the future band width availability will increase, but at present certainly a good option rather than have a 4 metre dish.

I left Extend because of poor customer service etc and went to Nethouse. At the same time I upgraded to 1 meg connection.



I use - my private network - VPN to watch UK TV with very poor results. True it downloads much quicker now but trying to watch live TV is VERY intermittent with constant buffering. I did use this VPN briefly with my 512 kbps connection before I left Extend and it was much the same, so as far as streaming live tv goes it was a waste of time paying for a 1 meg service.



I am not impressed with Nethouse really, of the 3 times I have contacted them for advice/assistance they have taken my details and assured me they would ring back - not once did they do so. It is easier to actually get hold of someone there but after that you seem to get nowhere fast.



Their agent, who is very helpful and who can get asnwers from them has twice been given dates a short time in the future when - things will be better- but no improvements yet......
