AZ (Alkmaar, Holland) - Arsenal (kind of EU team with one Englishman... ): 1 - 1. Well done, Dutchmen!

Liverpool 1 - 2 Lyon was a great game. The best example of refereeing I've seen for ages.

DC. Another Dutchman!

Why is the player Dirk Kuyt (previously his surname was pronounced, as in the English word KITE, but) now has his name pronounced KOYT, or phonetically as in the game QUOIT(S)?

I looked up this site: http://inogolo.com/pronunciation/d837/Dirk_Kuyt but I don't know WHY the pronounciation has recently changed?

DC;

AZ looked a fairly decent compact unit and their FOUR Dutchmen all looked comfortable on the ball.

Don't expect them to make the knock out stage though.

RE msg 2, pinkchilli: We have a real problem here! Difficult to discuss it on paper or on a screen though. All pronounciations you mention are wrong - and not one British man or woman will ever be able to pronounce it the right way... I've tried to teach the right pronounciation several times to British football fans in The Castle Bar, but I've given up... It's like the "th" in "the" which for me is an impossible sound...

Furthermore, if I remember well, Dirk's surname is spelled "Kuijt", where the "ij" (the i and j on a keyboard, but as one character not existing in the English language or in any other language!) is usually wrongly written as y in English.

If I ever meet you I'll pronounce his name 10x for you and then we both give up and have a beer (or "bier" in my native language). OK..?

The Sad Crusader takes every opportunity to run down anything that is at all British, he would be wise to remember that if it wasn't for the British there wouldn't be a Holland.

RE msg 6, AlexF065: (...) AK had 2 dutch players and YOU have a pop at ARSENAL (...)

=> AK?! What do I care about a football club called AK? The thread is about AZ (Alkmaar/Zaanstreek, Holland)... Although msg 3 is not quite correct - have a look at it.

Rangers got stuffed at home last night by some diddy team from Romania. Two home CL GAMES and 8 goals conceeded. Not good enough, no where near good enough.

I'm afraid Scottish football is going to become a joke if something isn't done soon!

RE msg 7, Hoppi: (...) The Sad Crusader takes every opportunity to run down anything that is at all British, he would be wise to remember that if it wasn't for the British there wouldn't be a Holland. (...)

=> Everybody in Holland, including all Dutch expats all over the world, remember how *you*, "Hoppi, the British", fought the "Battle of Arnhem" all by yourself. You're very famous there - they keep some hippos in the Arnhem Zoo in your honour.

P.S. Maybe you'd better focus on 1.000.000 British voters (6%), who voted BNP - standing now for everything bad in 1939-45.

P.P.S. Good to see you back after your ban here and all your childish crying about it on another board!

Man United win away again with a depleted team, no Giggs, Fletcher and Rooney. Roll on the weekend see if they can make it five in a row for Liverfool.

JimmyBoy63, he's won the champions league and come runner up. He probably deserves a little more respect than that.

Yes but you ask any Liverpool fan and the only thing that matters for them is to win the league!!!

and that is how the manager will be judged

The Liverpool manager does deserve respect for what he has achieved by as stated the "Holy Grail" for any club is to win the Premiership. Having mfollowed Man Utd since 1965 and gone through some awful years I can understand the frustration of the Liverpool fans but the way the league is going this year I can imagine it might be won with the least number of points for the "champions".

its so good to see and i havent missed a thing since ive been gone, that nothing has changed some people still bring politics or their own agendas in to posting even with a football thread!!!!!

az did really well they got a good team with the legend ronald koeman at the helm they must be doing something right to win the eredivise and to top that they made the gonners look standard well i wud say that being a spurs fan!!!! lol and in actual fact az has got 5 dutch players in their team but if u look at most of the top teams in holland i.e ajax, psv etc dont have many dutch players because they go off to italy, spain,uk,germany better prospects

the only british team that look good this season in the champ league and i hate to say it is chelski

sorry to say i dont think keane will last that long he has gone into management to early and olny relies on his name on wot he once wos and ipswich will never recapture the times they had under the great bobby robson, wot they need is a big cash injection and a solid no thrills manager to get them promoted to awake the sleeping giant they once wos

regards

Only joking John, Ipswich were a class act for several years and I looked out for their results every week. My team Chelsea has some great games against them, David Webb in particular:

Although he spent much of his Chelsea career as a right back, he also played in central defence (his original position) and occasionally as a centre forward, once hitting a hat-trick against Ipswich Town in December 1968. He even played as a goalkeeper for an entire match, also against Ipswich, on 27 December 1971, keeping a clean sheet in the process. We won 2-0 and one of our goals should have been disallowed as it hit the side stantion and neved entered the goal. I was at the game.

You look a pussy in your photo!!
