Just a thought has anyone gone in to pay without them sending a bill out to you, I have not had any bills for Council Tax from them but people keep telling me that I should go and pay,

any info would help, or wait until they contact me

You pay your Council Tax at same place as your water bill--- Belediyesi Office.



Go into the office with a water bill ---( for the ref no and ask them for your Council Tax Bill.

Do it as soon as you can as they charge penalties for late payments.



Here in Alsancak you pay Council Tax in Sept and Property Tax in April.

Thanks for that info, how can they say you are a late payer when no one here in our apts have ever had a Council Tax bill and there are 18 tenants most with their deeds,

Do you know what it cost per year and when did it start will i have a massive bill

any more info would help

Alsancak council tax or whatever, bills were on end of Sept water bills in Alsancak - pay when paying water bill as its all on same piece of paper. Its about 150tl - or ours is!! If you pay after 11th its on next one as they dont seem to get computer stuff through - so this months is same as last months!! Bit if a shock as I paid on 12th and thought Id creep in.

There is nothing on my water bill just the amount to pay its always the same 27.30ytl per month so why if we have to pay it why not put it down, so we can pay each month instead of letting it build up.

I know people in Alsancak have had bills for Council Tax which they pay, but if we havent, all I want to know is why fine us if they havent got the sense to write us out a bill

Smithy if you live in Girne it is included in with your monthly water bill and there is no separate council tax bill to pay. If you check at the council offices in the town centre they will tell you this. Alsancak have a different system with lower monthly bills and you pay an annual council tax separately. Hope this helps.

It does depend where you live as to who you pay & what you pay when. Each belediye has a different system.

My understanding was that the Annual Property tax in Girne used to be paid at the Tax Office in Girne. maybe this has now changed. I do not live in Girne & therefore do not know.

The reason that people occupying a new property do not get bills seems to be that the landowner should let the Belediye know. The landowner is responsible for the annual propertry tax until title is transferred but I doubt if a builder/landowner will ever pay it. The bill will continue to go to him. There is no enforcement here.

So the bills go unpaid & each year fines are added. These bills all have to be paid before a kocan is issued, so if this takes some years, there will be backlog of bills + late payment fines.

The rate for Property tax is 1 TL for each square meter of your property. House size (not land).

Therefore for a 100 metre property the annual tax will be 100 TL. If you have a pool then it will cost 50 TL more. I don't know what happens with a communal pool?

In Catalkoy the Property tax bill is issued each April (or earlier this year) & the 1st instalment (half) has to be paid by end of April & the 2nd Instalment by the end of September.

If you are not paying it currently, you need to decide whether to sort this out with the Belediye & pay it annually or wait until kocan is to be transfered & pay the backlog + fines then.

I went in with bills etc but was told I dont owe as I pay each month with the water bill, but everyone is saying something else, well sod it wait and see now, blame it on the girl in the office who told me, or play stupid hey whats new )
