Actually message 1 never heard of anyone having to pay the estate agent for this before as you normally have to go down in person to Kib Tek with passport and copy of contract!

Some Cypriot friends of mine have just paid 1,500 lira to have an extra meter as the families 2 houses were on 1 meter, and they wanted them seperated. So the Cypriots pay as much as the English.

I paid 80 lire for the meter. The other 1420 must be for a transformer, new wires into the property, Et Al.

I was going to write that your friend may well have paid for a transformer (as buzylizzy pointed out in msg 7) and not just a meter but if your friend is in an apartment the cost of a transformer should be shared amongst the other owners, surely??

Hi, I have a problem with my electricity in that the electricity for my house also feeds the communal pool - so I get billed for the lot! Can anyone tell me the best way to get a new meter and split the feed so that there are separate bills? Does this have to be carried out by Kibtek - If so how much should it cost ? I too have been quoted £1500 which seems a bit steep. Thanks

Must admit £1500 sounds a bit steep, I paid £750 for transformer and meter all connected.

had the same notice regarding fuses at our friends flat in patara city. There are many there with a piece of wire in where the fuse should be . Although i agree that a fuse is necessary in all cases. They had their fuse stolen twice , even though it was cable tied and then tied in with a strong wire. Many people take their fuse out and leave it in the apartment until they come out again. Can imagine arriving late at night and having no electric. Surely common sence would be to cut off anyone who bypasses the fuse by using a wire but leave alone those without anything in it as no damage is being done. Just a note;;;; my neighbour had he,s fuse stolen and kibtek gave him a piece of wire last year to stick in!!!

Hi.....contribution towards the transformer is about 1.5K gbp.....check your contract. There are two prices for the electric meter connection....one for the "locals" and the other for "us" The "local" price for meter and connection...I have been quoted this week...is...300ytl The "us" ie "rich" foriegners...is anything up to £1k..... You can get your builder to have it installed in his name, once in, just have the name changed to yours hope this helps / clarifies?

Neil27 msg 14 Is your communal pool wired from your flat/house/villa fuse box indoors? i.e. can you turn the pool power off inside your property? If so you can always have a seperate meter of your own to the pool. When you get your KibTek bill, subtract the units on the pool meter from the units on the bill and your own personal bill will be the difference.

Hi Stewart when we had the meter installed for the restaurant we paid 1385 TL plus 60 pounds sterling for a stamp. We were previously told it was 300TL. When we queried the cost the answer was you are not a cypriot. x

TRNCVaughan Yes, i do know how many unit the pool is using, but the problem is that the pool units push the bill into a higher tariff - and the management company are unwilling to pay the units at the higher rate. Therefore I can see no option but to pay for a meter solely for the house.

I agree with TSC, turn the power to the pool off and the management company might change their minds. Tell me how big the pump is (1hp?) and how many hours it is running per day and I will tell you how many units per day it uses. With this info, you will know exactly how much of the bill is down to the pool.
