My package with 'cold vantage' has expired and they have re-vamped their packages which are now almost double in price. Can anyone recommend a system. I am looking for the following channels: Show series,Show series extra, BBC lifestyle, 'E' entertainment, Dubai one, MBC 1,2,3,4, Hallmark, a news channel and a movie channel. There are so many, I have no idea where to start. Thankyou

I wouldnt recommend Digiturk, they keep taking channels off, and the reception is not that good anymore

maybe other members can recommend other packages

I am thinking of changing to the TV club and using extend. Anyone got any views on either extend or TV club

I have just been looking at the tv club website and it seems simple, easy and really cheap,is it too good to be true?? Has anyone had any experiences good or bad with them? Much appreciated.

CJ

I have Extend and have to say that on the whole I have been quite impressed with the package. I have the 1 meg connection and its download speeds rarely fall below, and often exceeed 1 meg. Admittedly they do have occassional down times but not as often as some people on here would have you think. Re watching TV through your computer - I have tried watching 'streamed' tv via BBC IPlayer and other sites but have found that 1 meg is just not enough download speed to make it watchable as the download is constantly 'buffering' to try and catch up with itself. However you can download programmes to watch later with no problems.

Afraid I cannot comment on the services of TV Club.

Hope this helps

Regards

Paul

I saw the advert for it in the cyprus today which gave the website address. Not sure whether or not there was a telephone number in either. Let me know if you find anything out. Thanks

Thanks Paul for that information. Do you think the TV club is streamed in the same way and therefore would not be watchable. I believe they have English servers but it is all above my head as to how it works.

Corinne/Mick,

Give them a ring and they will explain it all to you in laymans terms, as you know we are quite happy with it after the initial hiccups (did'nt help that our tv was'nt compatitable but we got there in the end with their help)

Hi, although i hate the idea of a 4 metre dish, husband insists that he wants a really good TV system for when we move out in March. Is it safe to have such a large dish on the roof of a fairly newly built house (trying to avoid having it spoil the garden)? We have been out when the winds were quite bad (Lapta, mountain side but not very far up) and I was quite worried the roof would take off. Had to be reassured that houses here are built to withstand earthquakes. Anyone have such a large dish on their roof in the area?

laptagal.

A 4 (or 4.2) Metre dish is far better on a solid base on the ground, out of the wind if possible, hidden behind shrubbery if necessary - it needs a clear view of the sky, looking up at roughly 45 degrees.

It is safe to mount it on a flat concrete roof (which would not have the slightest tendency to fly off, even in a tempest) but I have never seen one mounted on a pitched, tiled, roof - I doubt that it is possible, let alone advisable

There is one on the roof of the building in Alsancak where Woody's used to be (The DVD shop is at the left had end).

It's on the left just before Green Holiday Village heading towards Lapta.

Perhaps you could persuade your husband to take up a hobby other than watching TV... Gardening perhaps...

Of course if it's Sport he's after, there's always the delights of the various local watering holes, which vie to show all the matches in a convivial, beery ambience (which is why I rarely go in 'em ).

Typo - sorry!

The end of Line 6 should read "The DVD shop is at the left hand end"

Keith.

mess 12 - the 4m dish is a bit of an eyesore, but the tele over here is 3rd rate and the winters are longer and colder (well inside the villa) than you'd expect...

there are a lot of compromises you'll have to accept over here, don't make rubbish tele one of them...

Is anybody happy with Digiturk. We have been using Digital Supreme and at times it`s been a nightmare, sometimes through no fault of theirs but because the internet keeps going down and it`s always in the middle or at the end of something you really wanted to watch. DS relies on internet connection so as we are moving I was seriously thinking about going back to Didgiturk. Also I asked DS how much it will cost to move the system and was told 147gbp!!!! Now they are not going to have to supply a box or a dish because we have these it is just a matter of rewiring. How can they justify that? I notice a few adverse comments about Digiturk but when we used them before they were quite good. At that time they did not have all the programmes we wanted. So - is anybody happy with them?
