Traffic chaos in Girne this morning as they closed the area around the roundabout by the Belediye. Spoke to a couple of press and they said it was a suspect package. Bomb disposal unit were on the scene and I was told but cannot confirm that controlled explosion was used. Quarmby from Cyprus Yesterday. Girne.

There was a controlled explosion about 1110 this morning, it wasn't very big so I would be suprised if it was an actual bomb. Most like someones shopping! Angela

I wonder why they were so jumpy? Are they expecting trouble and from whom? I irresponsibly and accidently left a bag on a London Underground station three weeks ago. Luckily a woman just picked it up and handed it in to the Station manger. Very strangely nobody even considered it to be a bomb.

Well, that's good enough for me. I feel so safe on this Island, which is in itself is a bonus. Not long after the twin towers explosion, I saw a big box that was left at Stanstead airport. I reported it. It was still sitting on the floor after we'd collected our luggage. Couldn't wait to get out of there. So much for added security!!
