Dear all, my wife grew up in Famagusta before 74. Her family lived on Hippocrates street, where I believe to this day, the ferrous cement boat her father was building is still located. We were hoping that we could get into this area and the old town, but we're not sure if access is still restricted. If so, we wondered, if through consulate permission we could gain access? Also, can a southern cyprus hire car be taken into N.Cyprus. Thanks advance. George.

tonique. Dont know about the first question. Second question answer is yes. You buy insurance at the border in euros. You are responsible for repatriating the car to the south if it breaks down or is in an accident.

You cannot get access to Hippocrates Street as it is in the closed off area. You can of course access the Old Town (Walled City). Hire car from South allowed into the TRNC by the TRNC, provided you buy insurance at the border). Not all South Hire Car Companies allow you to do that, and in that case if you did you would be in breach of contract. Geoff

Hello Clara, Yes I am. We've been to Cyprus a few times (I was there in the Army for 4-years) but tend to end-up Paphos way as my mother retired in cyprus. On next year's visit, we decided to get a couple of days back in our old haunts. It's such a shame that we cannot get to those streets well remembered... I'll tell lisa that someone she knows has replied on here. Better than facebook !!! regards. George.
