Just in case anyone was thinking of buying it. I pre ordered Windows 7 home premium and plucked up the courage to do a clean install over XP yesterday. I watched the 'how to install Win 7' videos on the computeractive.co.uk website a few times first, not being computer literate. Have to say it went really smoothly and the vides really helped. Software like Microsoft Office especially Office Outlook working a treat, obviously designed to work with Win 7. Problems I used to have synchronising my Ipaq organiser gone. Have to say I would recommend it over XP, much more intuitive to use.

No Windows 7 is the operating system. Microsoft Word is seperate. You can get free office programmes i.e. http://www.openoffice.org

Msge 5 I've no idea but it works.

I don't think you will regret the change, especially if you have used Vista.

I ran a timed beta version of W7 up until timed out on the release date, and found it to be must faster and stable of the MS systems so far. It handles multi-tasking a lot more efficiently than previous systems. I am awaiting a copy from the uk, and will be doing a clean installation.

There were some compatibility issues, especially with printers (but this could be overcome by downloading the latest drivers from the printer companies site)

There is also an issue with graphics displays, W7 requires a fairly up to date graphics card (or drivers) to make use of the latest features in W7, although it will work with some older lower spec cards, it may not do 'what it says on the box'.

Apart from this i had no problems which i had experienced with vista/XP - a was sorry to lose it from my pc.

I hope you find it as responsive as i did - well done MS.

Thanks for info. I am well pleased with it so far. Gone are the days of frustration with trying to find things, click here, click there only to still not get what I wanted. Really much easier to use. I can see XP & Vista quickly fading into the distance once people get to know how good the new system is.

Are we saying that windows 7 is worthwhile purchasing and replacing vista?

We only use our computer at home for reading the papers on the internet and emailing though once we get rid of our 3G (now limited version) we will be looking at finding a provider with a higher download so that we can plug our laptop into our tv and watch movies etc. Will windows 7 be a better option than vista for this?

scoobydoo,

In a word no. Don't waste your money on upgrading as the new features and toys aren't worth it. Vista will do everything that you need your computer to do. If you do change your mind about your use then ask the same question again. Maybe then a different response may transpire.

I'd definately recommend upgrading from XP though. I've no experience of Vista having been put off by all the negative feedback. I was seriously thinking of going to Apple before but am happy with 7.
