| Interesting article in the Economist Some highlights *In the past seven years the value of Turkeys exports to the Middle East and North Africa have swollen nearly sevenfold to $31 billion in 2008 - selling cars to tableware, dried figs to television serials. *Turksih products were relatively unknown in this region but now they are ubiquitous in markets from Algiers to Tehran *Turks have scooped up hundreds of infrastructure contracts in Iraqi Kurdistan and is building airports in Cairo, Libya, Qatar, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates *Turkey has free trade pacts with Egypt, Israel, Morocco and Tunisia. It is seeking a similar deal with six members of the Gulf co-operation council which includes Saudi Arabia. |
