I think it basically says that using an HSBC card in other bank's ATMs will incur a charge of 4 TL for withdrawals and 0.50 TL for checking balances from today but there is something about 1% and 2TL that I can't quite understand. 02 Kasim 2009 tarihi itibariyle, yurticinde diger banka ATM'lerinden HSBC banka karti ile yapacaginiz "Para Cekme" islem ucreti, islem basina %1 + 2TL'den, islem basina sabit ucret 4 TL olacak sekilde degistirilmistir. "Bakiye sorgulama" islem ucreti ile ilgili herhangi bir degisiklik bulunmamaktadir. Apologies for non Turkish characters - my PC doesn't have the Turkish language set on it at the moment.

" As from 2nd November 2009 any withdrawals from other ATMs the cahrge has been changed from 1% + 2TL to 4 TL fixed. There has been no change about asking the balance of your account. Now we know. I would have thought that there would be no charge but anyway, you buy convenience for 4 TL. Assuming you withdraw 500 TL at a time, that works at 0.8% whereas previously it would have been 7 TL or 1.4%. So in my view its an overall improvement. ismet |

Interesting post. HSBC International have just sent us a similar change in charging structures.

The ugly head of end to free banking has raised its head in the UK again. Halifax will charge you £1 a day that you are more than £10 over drawn (it was originally £1 per day even if you are a 1p overdrawn, but they've backed down from that). It is now estimted that 40% of Current Accounts are fee paying, with over 90% of those not being in the customers favour. As we know, you get something for your fee br it house insurance, reduced interest on your mortgage etc. But people fail to do the sums and don't need these services or could get them cheaper elsewhere. But Free Current Account services are coming to an end, and it will be sooner rather than later.

So does that mean I can use my HSBC (Kyrenia branch) debit card in any ATM now because I thought I could only use it in the HSBC ATM. I would gladly pay 4TL if this is the case because it is a real pain having to drive to Kyrenia to get money out.
