Yes we have. Usual NC officialdom nightmare. Cost a fortune in import duty despite car worth bugger all in UK. Simple advice, buy car in TRNC.

Hi,

I brought my Citroen Saxo ( 12 years old ) over in June 2008 and was able to tax and insure it. The tax runs out in June next year and am hopeful that I will be able to tax it again. If not I will give it to customs as it only cost me £250 to buy. I wonder if its because I am not a resident that importing the car is not an issue.

Hi Brenda

I've sent you an email - it's not always such a great idea - depends on your circumstances and the car in question.

Kind regards

Due to the economic recession - especially in TRNC, the place is flooded with unsold, low mileage Japanese 2nd hand imports. Also, Brits are leaving like never before and unable to offload their vehicles, except for rock bottom prices. To import a car is a financial and bureaucratic nightmare and you can get it 'confiscated' on their whim, as our friends recently did - and goodnes knows how many others. The horror stories are legion!
