This is our first Christmas in North Cyprus and we were wondering if there are any activities for kids on over the holiday? Also are there New Year celebrations? Thanks

Good advice from smithy, Avoid the big Hotel ripoffs, and that really is what most of them are, everyone I have ever spoken to does not have a good word to say about the organised Xmas 2 day deals. Our friends went to Malpas expecting somthing special, and it was somthing like 2 turkeys between hundreds of people, then they ran out of meat. We went to Malpas for New Years, expensive and the worst food I have ever been served, you would not have given it to your cat. And we have heard similar reports about the other large Hotels, As far as I am aware The Savoy is good (but pricey) and from personel experience have always found PIa Bella Excellent.

Mountain View Hotel is where we will be Christmas day. A good mixture of nationalities and good value for money. Although I am not a 'Christmas' person this one ticks all the boxes for me. AJ

Merit Crystal Cove fantastic!!!! we have been for the last 3 years for the 3 day xmas "do". Pia Bella last new year was a let down. It was very cold, we had to ask them to light the fire in the lounge. That evening they put all the ex pats in an alcove out of the way from the main diners who were all locals. We complained as in previous years we all celebrated together. They said they couldn't move us but offered us free drinks, we felt like we didn't "belong" there were eight of us and we all felt the same. So this new year we will be looking elsewhere.

We found xmas to be difficult in the TRNC, not the fault of the country or people, I just missed my family way too much and am spending it back in UK this year.

Acmenia in Alsancak make a good day of it with music and games etc and a xmas lunch and then a buffet in the evening. I think they are charging for the day £30 per head for adults not sure about childrens prices.

everon. We have stayed at the Pia Bella for the last 5 yrs Christmas/New Year, agree with you about the NY being put in the alcove, we complained and hopefully it will be put right this year I will certainly ask the question when we arrive on the 12th Dec. We were given an apology and offered free drinks all night, could have what we wanted as as much as we wanted, we left after the meal anyway to go to some Turkish friends and we were given a bottle of wine to take with us.

I love Christmas in NC, I miss the family of course but not all the build up to it as in the UK. This year we'll be in Australia, a long way to go for a BBQ but looking forward to seeing my son and his family.
