The Akova Women's Association, formed in 2001, by a group of housewives in order to provide equal opportunities and facilities for citizens living in rural areas in the fields of education, culture and sports. This NGO has also made great contributions in raising awareness amongst local citizens, towards road safety and the problems of drug taking.



The Association have just produced a great new cookbook covering some 200 traditional recipes. The recipes are written in both Turkish and English and are illustrated with a picture of the actual dish. This book has taken approximately 2 years to prepare with lots of research. Each recipe is provided by the women and men from Akova and supporters of the association.



The book launch will be publicised, but you will be able to order copies from the Akova Women's Association or from me.



Priced at 35TL all profits go to the Association.

Dennis - why dont you get a stall at one of the markets when the book is ready for selling? i for one would come over to Lambousa/Carpenters/Pegasus etc if it was publicised you would be there.

I will talk to the association and ask whether it is something they would wish me to do. i am promoting/selling the book on a voluntary basis because my sister in law is the President of the Association, and she and the rest of the committee work very hard to promote the organisation they represent.

I would very much like to display the book in a few different locations so as soon as I can confirm what arrangemnt are in place regarding distribution etc, I will let everyone know.

i never thought id spend a couple of hours of my time engrossed in a cook book,but i just got to tell you.what a damm good book ive just been reading, TASTES FROM CYPRUS. such lovely recipes in both english and turkish.all with wonderful colour photos to compare to how your own turns out.

I cooked the chicken and potatoes in the oven, it doesn't sound to exciting by the title but it was absolutely delicious!!

I picked up a copy at Guidos in Alsancak on New Years Eve some very good recepies. However I am struggleing to find a sheeps head for the sheeps head soup. Guidos is worth checking out the food is very good.
