Is this not a little premature? Is it not tantamount to admitting, prior to the UK court's ruling, that the Orams case is already a lost cause?

It could also weaken the case for the compensation so be settled in the UK court and strenghen the case for it ALL to be settles by the Imovable Property Commission

i think you'll find that the ECHR are reviewing 8 or so claims to the immovable property commission this month, hopefully theyll rubberstamp the IPC as the "local remedy",once this is done,it will stop 1000's of claims via the courts that will ensue if the orams loose their appeal. This is the way things should be done imho,if ,that is Turkey back down and they and NC start paying compo on all the exchange property, however what is stopping Turkey and NC to say stuff the Eu and all, shut up shop, annex NC,and change all property deeds over to leasehold, with them owning the lease! Watch this space.

Not exactly 'wise' to report this as a 'TRNC' 'court'.. especially as the ECHR will soon review it's effectiveness. It is Turkey's local remedy and Turkey that is paying out.. not 'TRNC' I'm still waiting to hear of one case where a GC has been awarded restitution - where the property is not occupied.. hardly a ringing endorsement. The Xenides-Arestis case resulted in TR having to pay for loss of use.. the GC plaintiff STILL owns the property and land.

In the first case that works out to if my maths is right, to around £32000 a donum and in the second case around £9000. What is the true value of land in Kyrenia. It begs the question, where doed KKTC find that sort of money

Hi Sporty, It's not Turkey's initiative.. it is the ECHR's ;) ! Dear stillluvithere... the money is from TURKEY. It is clear that TR needs some sort of settlement or reciprocity from the 'rump' RoC, as they could never pay out at this rate

I think this is a very positive development from the Immovable Property Commission and the more settlements reached this way the better for everyone involved. Things are on the up I say! Keep up the good work IPC.
