Just wondering what newspapers are most read on the island, particularly for people living in Famagusta, Esentepe and Bogaz. How many read the Cyprus Star and the Cyprus Mail, or does everyone read the Saturday edition of Cyprus Today?

MarieB

Ref message 3.

I try to avail myself of all the English language newspapers that are obtainable in the TRNC (even those from the South) but I must say that the Cyprus Observer has the lowest print quality out of all of them. If you are lucky you might get some colour on the front page but inside is dismal with washed out monochrome pictures/photos. I also think that the paper needs to become more dynamic with its reporting. The Cyprus Observer has a lot of catching up to do if wants to compete with the dynamics of Cyprus Star and Cyprus Today. If it does not change then unfortunately it will die.

I would tend to agree with message 6 - I buy both editions of Cyprus Today and occasionally the Star. I no longer buy UK papers, but browse the news sections online (when Sunny Cyprus can connect me!)

We read Cyprus Today regularly but preferred it before they created the 2 editions as I think this tends to reduce the quality of the weekend edition by spreading things out.

Used to read the Star sometimes but stopped and the Cyprus Observer isn't sold in or near Esentepe.

I thought for some time the best chance for the Cyprus Observer would have been to switch to a midweek publishing date to differentiate itself however the Midweek edition of Cyprus Today has probably eliminated most of the advantages of doing so.

Also read the Cyprus Mail online.

I read both editions of Cyprus Today. Occasionally buy a Daily Mail. Brings me onto something else. Why have they stopped doing same day editions of the Daily Mail?

I rarely bother with any of them now, just occasionally the Saturday CT. Used to always buy it but cannot stand how they have diluted it down to fill 2 editions. Prefer to catch up on things via the Internet.

Thanks for the honest reports on Cyprus Observer. I really appreciate it. Was talking to someone today who has given up reading because the quality is going downhill. But it is difficult to get anyone to listen at C.O - very unprofessional, but 'this is Cyprus'. Some things seem to want to wll themselves to die.

Any other comments owuld be appreciated - honestly.

As for me, if anyone is interested, we buy Monday's Daily Mail; have the Weekly Telegraph delivered (often comes three at a time!!!! and then nothing for amonth). Don't really read any local papers, except to skim (sometimes, naughty me, I read them on the shelf) Often read the Cyprus Mail and Cyprus Weekly just to see what they are saying over there (I used to live there!) and to get a picture of politics from north to south.

BUT HERE;S ANOTHER QUESTION

Why does anyone buy and read local papers? Is it for news? Advderts? O rjust seeing what the neighbours are up to?

We buy Cyprus today as we both like to read Rev Walkers sports column which is quite funny at times. The letters page usually has something to offer and we like the crosswords.

MarieB we will get a copy of the Observer and then let you know what we think of it!!!!!!!!!!! maybe next week.xxx

Thanks Nurse Awful inletting me know that the circulation of C.O will be boosted by one! And I am NOT being sarcastic.

I really WOULD WELCOME genuine feedback to pass on to the Powers that Be. At least you could do the Sudokus! Or the Crossword puzzles, even if you didn't like the rest of the content! Although of course next week could be of particular interest to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
