Guido's, food better than the view though they do get some attractive socialites to ogle at!

Efendi do the best Sunday lunch no question about it. Unfortunately no panoramic views but now the dining is inside you can look into the very pretty courtyard & it is located in the picturesque Turkish Quarter so you can take in the ambiance of the area whilst walking to & from the restaurant.

That might have been one of the requests, but just pointing out it is a nice bar, good value for money for the amount of food that they serve.

For views I would go to Levant Restaurant up in Karmi. Lovely outside terrace with views to Hilarian or inside in the traditional Cypriot building with flagstone floors and lovely stone arches, etc. The Sunday lunch is really good and is 25TL for 3 courses.

RE msg 9, everon: (...) no nice view though, which is one of the requests (...)

=> I'm not familiar with the famous British "Sunday lunch" (in Holland people tend to go to a football or other sports match on Sunday afternoons...) so I think I'm entitled to ask a question. OK? Here goes: what nicer view can you get than one of Guido's Sunday masterpieces..? Nice (wonderful) food that makes a nice (wonderful) view!

P.S. Where's Guido's you might ask. Well, Guido's is...

I will back efendis as the best we have discovered, Punjab was not bad but to be frank my visit to Guidos was a big dissapointment after so much fuss was made.

RE msg 13, islandgirl: (...) my visit to Guidos was a big dissapointment after so much fuss was made. (...)

=> And this is exactly what I'd bluntly like to call 'worthless information'. Why are you disappointed? What happened? If we name and shame we should at least give the shamed the chance to react/explain/apologise.

yes we have also been to Guidos, but Punjab is still our favourite for Sunday lunch, I love the starters and I'm always so full with the dinner ( choice of roast, lots of roast spuds, mash, 3 veg, 2 yorkshire puds, big jug of gravy ) I can never eat a sweet. It's so yummy I could eat it every day!!

I don't think islandgirl was so much naming and shaming than just pointing out that she was disappointed when she went there. But I suppose it is just so a pointless argument can start as usual.

Efendi Restaurant or the old mill are very good, completely different venues but serve a great Roast. I have never tried Guido's but heard good reports

Service was slow, when we saw Guido fleetingly he seemed in a foul mood, the lady out front was drinking and smoking, veg overcooked meat OK, but at a guess reheated not bad but generally dissapointing. The sole reason I mentioned it was to give some balance to the "Guido fan club", I did not go into any protracted description, (the one I have submitted is only a summary of some of the points) as I wanted to avoid the assault that will follow.

I mentioned Jk's I know that does not have the views but Guido's and Punjab's do not have brilliant views either. As the message also said etc. I would of thought that meant value for money and how good the food actually is as I would not want to pay for a meal with just view's and the food was not good.

OK. Now for the nice view: Two restaurants near the Mercure hotel (Sezai and Yelken: excellent fish. And a place next to it, forgot the name) have undoubtedly unchallenged views. Especially in this time of the year when the sun sets early. The view over the bay is breathtaking.

My vote goes to Punjab, also the most reasonable. You can have traditional Sunday roast or Indian and the sweets are to die for.

I'm sure you can see the sea.....but maybe not when you are sitting down.

For the best view and setting in TRNC has to be the Belapais/Abbey restaurant but cannot comment on the food & price, however, many a wedding reception is conducted there.

Tsk, Brinsley. Bellapais, Brinsley, not Belapais. Bastardised from "la belle paise" (medieval French) or more modern "la belle paix".

Thank you ebookuk I am so pleased you enjoyed it. Island girl if only you had mentioned it at the time we could have rectifed any problem. Im just so sorry you had a bad experience. As for me going out every hour or so for a cig, its a stressful job, once my customers are happy then I go out. If I recall I went to join friends who were celebrating for a drink with them and as it was getting late I sat with them. We have staff who do the rest. However I thank you for your comments which will be taken on board. Thank you

With your excellent English as a second language please do not pull me up on a dropped 'L' as you do make the occasional spelling error when writing in English! Especially as we all make mistakes unless you've changed your name to 'Peter Perfect'!

Kervan, Alsancak, down near the Mercure has excellent views. Eat in or out, Down the steps to the beach with free loungers and brollies. The tour boats anchor there for swimming. Food excellent but have never been on a Sunday.

If you are thinking of the Karpaz area you could do a lot worse than the Moon over the Water in Iskele. The restaurant is on the sea shore with good views, and the wine list is good, which is unusual for that area.

Try Tolgas at Karsiyaka, not for the view but great home cooked food, nothing frozen all fresh. You need to book as it is all cooked to order.

I have just got back from N. C yprus last night, tried a number of places for Sunday without doubt the best we had was at the Punjab. At 17 lira for a two course lunch it was excellent.

If you are looking for a scenic drive out & lunch to follow, try Cafe Golya in Sadrazamkoy (on the West Coast). It serves the traditional kleftico lunch, meze etc. You need to book before Sunday for the kleftico.

Tel: Mazhur (speaks English) on 0533 860 3934, or you can contact through the website: http://cafe-golya-sadrazamkoy.webs.com

msg 38: lovinit never mentioned wanting "a traditional Sunday lunch", just Sunday lunch with nice views for a special ladies birthday. The "special lady" might be from anywhere, England, sorry Chris, UK, hasn't cornered the market with them.

Green Valley on the Mare Monte road - can see the sea!! (just) Sit outside under the fig tree is the weather is good. 20tl for most meals and this includes a meze, fruit and coffee/brandy once you pick the main course - some mains are a little more. Salih is always friendly and helpful.

Fire starter, James no longer works at Guidos he is in new employment, I believe at Zetins.

Islandgirl I would have been more worried if the chef at Guidos had been in the dining area when you had your meal he was probably in the kitchen where, incidentally chefs usually are.

What is the main priority here - views, or grub. There are excellent restaurants without views, but I would agree that Kybdele has it all (as long as you don't want trad. English lunch.)

Agree that if you do want trad.English lunch and a sea side setting at Karpaz, then moonover the Water, or you could go beyond Yeni Erenkoy to DEKS, right by the sea. But as winter approaches, gets a bit chilly. Also, does price matter?

Difficult decision, isn't it?

O.K. Moon Over the Water is on the coast road below Famagusta and fairly near Salamis (although beyond) Best way to go is:

Along Famagusta road from Nicosia roundabout until turn off to Iskele, just before turn off to Ercan (that new flyover). Keep going through there to the very, very end, and then turn left (several kms along - lots of kms along). Just before Bogaz you will see Moon Over the Water on your right. Be careful you could miss it. If you get toBogaz, youhave gone too far. It is not 'flash' but 'homely' with all home cooked food, including the bread with the meal. Cost is around 20tl I think, but why not phone them on 0392 371 3297 for full info.

Of course, just to throw a spanner in the works, if you want opulence with a fairly good view, then Di Figaro's at Karaoglanoglu can't be beaten. But more expensive and NO trad. sunday lunch.
