Soyer: We Are Trying To Channel Water From Turkey To Northern Cyprus

Published: 5/12/2008

LEFKOSA - Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Friday that they were working on a project aiming to channel water from Turkey to TRNC.

"We have recorded great progress on this matter so far," he added.

Soyer said that the issue (shipping of water from Turkey to TRNC) was discussed in technical committees which were set up within the scope of the new process initiated to settle the Cyprus problem.

He added that the committees were currently working on "peace water" project.

Cant believe the Greeks would drink water that originated from Turkey but on a brighter side how many might choke on it .

Hi Jo,

As I understand it this will be an interim solution as the pipeline from Turkey will take 2 years to construct.

I have little doubt however that the pipeline will feature as a major factor in the "Cyprus

problem" negotiations.
