Amazingly I got here after a 3K miles drive from England. Too long to detail the journey suffice to say it was some experience. Did not spare the hotels and meals out hence with petrol it was expensive. Highlights- Driving through Switzerland, Italy, North Greece and parts of the West coast of Turkey. A fine dinner in a Michelin restaurant in Piacenza..the friendly Turkish people and the sense of freedom on the open roads. Worst Bits- Nearly being killed at Saloika when an articulated truck went over infront of me. The price of petrol and the warned of horrors of the Tasucu ferry. By the way where is the precise location of the Customs Office in Nicosia where I need to be in 30 days to get an extension visa for myself and my car? I plan to stay until April. If you see a Silver Saab 93 it'll probably be me.

Go to big roundabout in Nicosia. Turn left to Ercan. After about 4 miles and a few traffic lights that only seem to let one lane move at a time, you will see Police sign on your left. It' up there on the right. If you get to the MOT station, you've gone too far. Everyone in TRNC will help you when you get close. Ask for someone to help with any forms. Agree price before, get him to write it down, specify which currency, specify it will be due when you get the permission, NOT BEFORE, agree any other people that need to be paid, which are not official, must come out of his end. This is not a joke.

Well done Corbo I bet it was an exciting journey, to find the customs office you follow the Famagusta Road east through Lefkosa and turn left at Kombos Mercedes, the customs office is about 300 metres on the right. Richb

Thanks for that pinkchilli. Didn't realise that you paid for a Visa extension but not too surprised.

Thanks Richb..it was some experience. The days of doing this are coming to an end with the prohibitive price of petrol..unless electric cars are on the horizon at a reasonable price.

Corbo. You don't pay for a visa extension, but if you need help with forms, there's always a nice little man (they are always small) that will help, for a price. You will need help importing your car.

Antica Osteria del Teatro was the Piacanza restaurant. Bit too tired to fully enjoy what was a very good dinner.

I won't be importing the car as it's over 2 years old. Should be returning in April anyway but you never know. Saab was brilliant for the drive. It felt as if it could have gone on for 60 K miles never mond 3 K.

That is for sure kavenkoy..all such journeys, however difficult when doing them, become stuff of legend in ones own life anyway. The journey is often better than the arrical..but I'm optimistic on this one and see the arrival at being at least as good. There is something in the make up of the structure of the Universe that makes a struggle wothwhile in some way.
