Has anyone tried Hydro-Kleen, which is a hand held hose to break down toilet tissue? Does it work and prevent blockages? It certainly sounds a better idea than using bins!

Flushing Lavatory Paper and Eliminating Smells for good.

We can help you with this. In the last three years we have modified the drains and plumbing sytems of hundreds of villas to enable the flushing of lavatory paper and to eliminate smells.

Once we have done what we do we guarantee no smells and, given normal usage, no blockages. If you get either you just call us and we fix the problem FOC.

Come to Lambousa Market today or any Saturday to discuss the problem or call me on 0533 836 7094.

They had Hydro Kleen in Thailand they were Brilliant, There is a guy on here who can get them for you and fix them on the wall next to the loo, I was going to get a couple but once I knew I was moving on I didnt bother, but if you are thinking about them get them.

I think I must find out what Hydro Kleen is about, it could well be a useful addition to our armoury. Smithy, where can I look at them here?

In the meantime Turtle0606:

We can have the problem solved permanently without any "hosing". We will take up 15 minutes of your time to do a free survey and give you a quote and under half a day to fix the problem.

You will be surprised how little it costs to deal with the "tissue issue" once and for all and to eliminate the smells which often get back into the house owing to the strange plumbing arrangements.

Hi John

I just googled it, but when I put a posting on here about how great and hygenic they were, someone came on and said we fit them, which I was amazed at, which they probably will do today if they see this posting

We have had the new HYDRO-KLEEN system installed, it is designed to replace the common loo brush,it has a powerful water jet that cleans the loo, it also saves water because there is no need to flush the loo to clean the brush, it does break down toilet tissue, the other reason why we chose to use this system is that the loo brush/holder is a germ attraction, we had ours fitted by Bracey Builders , worth every penny or you can email hydro-kleen@live.com

Smithy or someone with Hydro-Kleen

I just need to understand this as I am bound to be asked about this at the market today and I don't want to trouble Kirk on a weekend.

How does it work?

From what you have said it seems you have a hose attachment near the loo which you use after each visit to break down the contents of the lavatory bowl, then you flush? Is that right?

John you are quite right its attached to a hose near the system, it has a small lever which you use as a bidet also breaks down contents, very powerful. I bought a picture of one back with me from Thailand but deleted now, well worth the money.

This toilet tissue issue is the one thing that i dont like about NC,i really dont like having to put used toilet tissue in a bin and i certainly feel sorry for the local binmen also!!I would certainly be interested in this system being installed in the toilet and the en-suite,i assume the water supply to the jet is simply tee'd off the pipe to the toilet, please could you give me some idea of fitting two. Thanks

We had our drains sorted by a reputable tradesman and we can just flush paper away with no problems, cost about £30 for the lot.

Most of the soil pipes on new construction (last four years} are the same size as the U.K. ones. Measure the ones on your home. If the diameter is about 112mm it will perform the same as the U.K. pipes, and carry away the necessary paper quite properly.

The pipes may be the same size but the concrete chambers are badly designed and if you are not there all year round, they soon become blocked up. We have had to resort to jet washing these out on more than one occassion after guests have used loo paper. When you live on a complex and all the pipes are connected, it is very difficult to do anything about this. Any suggestions would be helpful

Unfortunately bleach destroys the natural enzyme process which breaks down waste. You will do more harm than good by pouring bleach down your toilet.

Wow! Thank you for all your replies, I've only just joined the forum and think its great to be able to discuss things in the TRNC when you're living from afar. A big thank-you to Cyprus-44! Can't wait to get back there next March.

I've bought a 2nd floor flat in the TRNC, and while the Hydro-Clean sounds a very good idea, I'm wondering if it would work with the rest of the plumbing/size of pipes in the complex. If anyone has had it fitted in a flat, rather than house/villa, please let me know.

lol

For those that don't want or can't afford to get Hydo-Kleen and hate putting paper in the bins. I get babies scented nappy bags brought from the UK if it keeps the smell of a nappy in well it will keep any other smells in. I use some bleach in my toilets and they never smell.

'Mummy, mummy - can I lick the bowl?'

'No dear, flush the loo like everybody else!'

God - that's an old one, but a timely resurrection, I would say: 'at this present point in time'!

There seem to be a few misconceptions about what is going on here with the drain blockages.

Drains

The pipes are mainly 4" pipes with 2" sometimes used for the kitchen waste. 2" is too narrow even for the kitchen as fat soon builds up and blocks them. These are often harder to unblock than lavatory waste pipe blockages. The problem with the lavatory waste system is that the "inspection chambers" are usually very badly made, rough concrete boxes, out pipe often higher than the in pipes, there are frequently "sumps" as much as a foot below the out pipe. The waste finds it hard to negotiate these obstacles and the paper and waste soon collects, often drying out in the heat and creates a very effective dam.

Reforming these "inspection chambers" makes the flushing of lavatory paper possible.

There is nothing that you can put down the lavatory to stop the smells so please give up on that one. The smells do not come from the lavatory bowl they come from the various pipes which are often unsealed and effectively open ended in the house. Thus, there is often a pipe direct from the cess pit into the house. This can be to sinks, showers, bathes, washing machine, dishwasher or the lavatory coupling to the waste pipe.

The solution is to ensure that everything either has a u-bend and/or is properly sealed and to install proper stink pipes. We have been doing this now for almost three years. We guarantee no smells and no blockages given normal use.

What is normal use? We are often asked.

Hard to define but we know abnormal use when we see it. A prime example was the villa where we found a carrier bag with six dirty nappies in it in one of the inspection chambers. Needless to say we were unable to extract a confession and no one had any idea how it got there.

No way should babies nappies, tampax, sanitary towels, or wet wipes be put down the toilet. Wet

wipes are the worst as they dont disintergrate. I was watching a programme on british teli where

those huge waste pipes were often blocked due to these items. If thats what its like with the huge

pipes here in britain one can imagine how easy the waste pipes get blocked in cyprus.

The cost depends on what needs to be done. How many chambers and the state of them etc.. If stink pipe(s) needed and what u-bends and other work is required indoors.

I would need to come and have a look which takes about 15 minutes.
