I will believe it when it happens. Could be used in the talks as the south could really use the water as well.

Hope it has a better ending than the Girne bypass. Perhaps they will remember to actually have a plan to connect it when it gets to the TRNC.

Can't be any worse than the GC's attempts to tanker water from Greece to the ROC. They put all of the infrastructure in only to find that the flexible pipeline that was installed to take the water from the tankers was not long enough. Oh how we all laughed.

I seem to remember Turkey offering water to Greece during the summer of 2008 and Greece said no thanks and continued to carry on shipping the water, Paul.

Good news, Though I won't hold my breath. It'll take twice as long as forecast plus a good 30 days on top of that. Anyone know of a good company that can drill and set-up a water well?

This year, next year, sometime, never - that's the name of the game in TRNC! And Hector is quite right to be cynical about the probable cost - there'll probably be 100% + Duty + 15% + KDV added; then add the prevailing resale 'greed factor'.... But it all bodes well - well, eventually!

Re No. 15: The south provides much electricity for the north via a power line that runs fom near Frenaros over to near Famagusta. They charge the north LESS than they charge their own customers. I took this up with EAC a few years ago who at first denied it, and then admitted it on the grounds it was the "commercial" rate. i.e. the no-orofir rate. Suits me! But I guess their customers in GC-land won't be too happy about that! Geoff

| IMO, the 1st thing the TRNC needs in order to have a chance in life, is good infrastructure services. The water pipeline would revolutionise farming and tourism, and would be a money maker (no more tankers to top up your pool) A gas pipeline would also be fantastic - no need for oil fired power stations any longer, which should reduce the cost of electricity (if they don't also put an electricity cable over. | Hi..think you will find that the water is intended for the whole island, some of pipeline being paid by EU. Still...there must be an on / off switch.....will make the south more reliant on Turkey either way |

STILL not too clued up on facts re CY , :( ... This was true for a week last year... Now how long and how many times have we heard that water will be piped to Cyprus from Turkey..? I, too, will believe it when I see it... IF I'm still around... |

The water pipeline from Turkey has been in planning (in the pipeline ?) since circa 2004. This latest proposal has now expanded this to pipe electricity, water, gas and anything else of they can think at the same time. Any project drift, problems and delays associated with this will probably be on the Cyprus side. Personally I don't expect to see this come to fruition for at least 5 years if ever.

I think it will happen next year - Turkey wants to settle all its neighbour disputes, Cyprus in particular, and the pipeline will help this one of two ways 1. Providing cheap and plentiful water/electricity/gas will make the TRNC more amenable to annexisation with Turkey 2. Provides and extra incentive for the RoC to accept an agreement, on the basis they do not want the above to happen. Any way you look at it, the pipeline(s) will drastically change life in Cyprus Mark

The more I think about it, the more likely it is to happen As a "solution" one way or another is very likely next year, another building boom is the likely result (collective sigh) As we know, there is no way the existing water/power/roads can cope with this, so when there are firm commitments to finish the Girne bypass, Karpas Road etc. I think we can anticipate a solution is on the cards. A double edge sword if ever there was one Mark

Once the north has plenty of cheap water and power, there is the real chance of tourism florishing (as well as farming and everything else) I guess one option to encourage this, is something similar the Turkish government did in the 80s , i.e said to it's "businessmen", "build the tourist infrastructure, and we won't ask where the money came from" A pragmatic move that has reaped many benefits for Turkey Mark

Wasn't there an earlier problem with running the pipes over the deep Adana Trench between Turkey & Cyprus? I'm sure I read that a year or so ago.

| I think the initial; plan was to lay the pipeline on the sea bed, but due to problems with this they are now going for a "suspended" pipe As I see it, this pipeline is essential to win the hearts and minds of the voting population of the TRNC. My timetable for next year is Re-unification talks go no where April - presidential elections in the TRNC, UBP/Pro Turkish president elected Girne bypass, Karpass Road, water pipeline completed Vote in the TRNC for Enosis with TR TRNC becomes a province of Turkey Problem Yok !
