For the last 2 years I have been sharing my neighbours electric (with their permission) however they expect me to pay their electric when they come on holiday for a month. Im out of work and asked if they could make a contribution for their stay this time at the low tariff and not 3 times the price which Kib Tek make me to pay. They didnt agree and without talking to me they pulled the plug. Yes I cut my nose off to spite my face some will say. I must look to the future now and I do have a 5 kilo watt geni but its pretty noisy and I dont really want to leave it on night time as its under my bedroom window. Would it be worth buying a small 1 kilo watt geni just for my fridge and 1 light during the night, would it be much quieter and also for the the day when Im out, but not sure how long the petrol will last. Someone suggested putting in a solar panel for my fridge during daytimes when Im out but doesnt a solar panel run just on sun and sun is going! Oh dear flipping Cyprus!

Batgirl batteries.....? my geni doesnt take batteries! Rowlo Well putting aside the stress of living with a geni, I was rather looking forward to much lower bills without kibtek electric on a builders tariff. Ive just put 30 lire of petrol in the geni and am wondering how long it will last. More advice....back to TOP

Sorry Lynn, I am at a bit of a loss here, when you were plugged into your neighbours electric supply, was it on builders electric? If it was I think your all supposed to share it until you get your own meter, I maybe wrong but that's how we all did it on our site. I'm probably wrong....usually am. Vicki

Forget the past, its this bit thats important now .... I think only someone who is expect on geni's can answer or an electrician. PS How would 2 geni's work in my house? The one I have now is wired up to a plug on the outside of my house and I have to ensure I turn off the mains electric otherwise Id blow myself up.

Any ideas on living without mains electric apart from a noisy generator and does a geni work out cheaper than builders electric?

What is the rate for builders electric? Monitor the fuel used running (at full load) your 5kW genni for 12 minutes. Work out the cost of the petrol used. This will either be more or less than the builders electricity rate and will compare the cost per unit of electricity between the mains and the genni. Generating electricity by other means, solar etc., can be expensive and may not pay for itself before you finally get "proper" mains electricity.

I know you say 'forget the past' (whatever that means) but, if you give us just a little more information someone may be able to help you get connected to the mains. I went through the whole Kibtec thing myself only a couple of weeks ago. Vicki

Hi britvic No its impossible in our situation with the site to get connected to the mains until issues are sorted out with landowner and builder. Kibtek cut our site off 2 years ago as they are owed a substantial amount of money from the landowner.

then go for solar (photovoltaic).. dont buy a genny, just a few panels for a few lights and fridge. The system can be upgraded easy if you need more electricty. If you dont like the solar idea you could think about an backup with batteries and inverter, connected to your big genny - so when you run your 5kW genny the backup saves the not used energy - "backuped" for future use - perhaps for the night. Once you are connected to the mains you can conect the backup to the mains and use it as a "silent generator" without any interruption of power. Even this battery backup can also be upgraded to a solar photovoltaic system, which makes you independent from your builder, KıbTek, neighbours etc.. Think about it.
