Religious Holidays

There are quite a few Religious Days but they are not generally taken as holiday, but there will be celebrations in the Mosques.

The main Religious Holidays are:

Seker Bayram (Sugar Bayram) Lasts three days and takes place at the end of the Holy Month of Ramazan.

Kurban Bayram (Feast of Sacrifice) Takes place two months after Seker Bayram and lasts for four days.

As Seker Bayram last year was on 23 24 25 October the Kurban Bayram just happened to coincide with New Year.

Ramazan moves forward in the year (as Jim pointed out) about 10 days and so this year Kurban Bayram will be approximately 10 days before New Year, around 21 December-ish. Hence the comment that the shops may well be empty.

As Ramazan moves each year then it will coincide with all the national holidays at some point over the years.

Not all the shops shut for every holiday, often the small local shops stay open for the basics.

Think you've got the Kurban Bayram a little wrong Dutch Crusader. My list gives 27th November -30th November, inclusive, for the Kurban Bayram this year.
